About The Role

This position involves a 39-hour work week, with an hourly rate of €16.12, based at one of our multiple locations: Mallow (P51 T889), Killorglin (V93 TD99), Sligo (F91 A243) or Ballymote (F56 EP48).
Job Purpose: To enhance the quality of life of each resident by providing individualised holistic care. To promote independence, and be able to communicate effectively with the resident and with the multidisciplinary team.
Main responsibilities
- To deliver quality care to each resident
- To assist residents with intimate and personal care, based on assessed needs
- To assist residents with eating and drinking where and when appropriate
- To promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet
- To assist residents with mobilizing
- To assist with diversional therapy i.e. activities, movement to music etc.
- Assist nursing staff with all the resident care and the care of the dying
- Be familiar with the control of infection
- Report any changes in residents’ condition to senior nurse on duty
- At night to ensure residents sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noise and bright lights
- Document any records you are required to keep in the course of your duty.
Health & Safety
- Due to the high dependency of the residents, close supervision day and night is vital for their safety and well-being
- To be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland
- To report any faulty equipment e.g. lifting hoists, bath hoists, etc. to your immediate supervisor
- To familiarize yourself with the use of transfer slide sheets, handling belts
- Use hoists only with a second staff member present
- Ensure you understand policies and procedures with regard to Evacuation and Fire.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Have FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant training
Have previous experience of caring for the elderly preferably in a residential setting
To adopt a person-centered approach to care planning
Experience of working with others in a team setting
Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Have a genuine interest in caring for older people
Show a positive attitude and be open to changing needs within Nazareth Care Ireland
To participate in care planning with nursing and other relevant staff
Be proficient in Manual Handling and Patient Moving Skills
