About The Role
DescriptionPosition Summary
The Adult Trip Driver/Chaperone is responsible for safely transporting, supervising, and engaging participants on adult and senior trips. This position will drive a 15-passenger bus as scheduled and serve as a chaperone to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for participants. The Adult Trip Driver/Chaperone reports to the Recreation Supervisor. Work hours will vary based on scheduled trip needs.
Work Location: Wood Dale Park District Recreation Complex (111 E Foster Ave), various parks and facilities throughout the district, and specified off-site locations.
Hours: Varies based on scheduled trip needs; flexibility is required.

Supervision
Supervisor: Recreation Supervisor
This position supervises: No supervisory responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
- Chaperone trips as scheduled.
- Drive a 15-passenger bus as scheduled or needed.
- Maintain appropriate attendance records and other required documentation in accordance with District policy.
- Assist the Recreation Supervisor in evaluating trips and programs.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with participants and co-workers.
- Assist participants on and off the vehicle and to program locations, as needed.
- Complete required vehicle inspections and trip logs.
- Maintain a clean vehicle by checking for trash and items left behind after each trip.
- Provide excellent customer service and support Park District standards.
- Promptly communicate any accidents, safety concerns, maintenance issues, complaints, etc. directly to Recreation Supervisor in proper documentation.
- Follow district departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures, and ordinances.
- Adhere to scheduled hours.
- Demonstrates and supports the Park District's Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequirements / Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required, or ability to obtain shortly after hire
- Prior experience working with older adults or seniors preferred
- Flexibility, excellent communication skills, and patience
- Previous customer service experience preferred
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods throughout the workday
Knowledge of
- Basic navigation skills, including the use of maps and GPS for route planning
- Proper use of a cell phone for communication while maintaining safety and compliance with applicable driving laws
Ability to
- Drive a 15-passenger bus
- Operate a wheelchair lift
- Make sound and safe judgements under both normal and highly stressful situations and circumstances
