About The Role

The VP External will be responsible for external communications to potential partners and stakeholders, and gathering both in-kind and monetary sponsorships for Commerce Night awards, giveaways, and attendee gift bags.

Time Commitment

  • Summer and first semester: 8-10 hours/week
  • Second semester (prior to Commerce Night): 10-12 hours/week

Term of Employment

May 2025 - March 2026

Main Responsibilities

  • Secure in-kind and monetary sponsorships supporting Commerce Night giveaways, gift bags, and event initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong and professional relationship with all potential sponsors and external parties through phone calls and email communication.
  • Act as a liaison for the invited donors and sponsors and ensure a positive experience throughout the gala.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to create an updated Commerce Night Sponsorship Package.
  • Assist with the overall planning and execution of Commerce Night events, including but not limited to, Bizweek, Group & Individual Awards Information Session, and the Commerce Night Gala.
  • Mentor 1 External Associate, who will be hired in fall.

Qualifications

  • Intrinsically motivated, persuasive, and highly resilient.
  • Strong, professional verbal and written communication skills to represent Commerce Night externally.
  • High level of organization and ownership when managing multiple conversations and timelines.
  • Good problem solving and time management skills.
  • Previous experience with external outreach and fundraising will be considered an asset.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes

  • Experience in sponsorship outreach and partner relationship management.
  • Develop confidence through direct contact with professional communication with external parties.
  • Make a strong impact on event attendees’ experience at the Commerce Night gala
  • Gain experience promoting and supporting the awards process, including contributing input on evaluation criteria and helping ensure a fair and transparent selection process
