Senior WordPress Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior WordPress Developer based in India.

This is a senior hands-on development role focused on building, maintaining, and optimizing high-quality WordPress websites and digital <experiences.You> will take ownership of custom WordPress architecture, theme and plugin development, technical decisions, performance, and security.The role combines deep PHP and WordPress expertise with front-end development, responsive design implementation, and production environment <management.You> will translate designs and wireframes into polished, accessible, and high-performing websites across devices and browsers.Working closely with designers, backend developers, and business stakeholders, you will independently drive technical delivery and solve complex <issues.You> will also contribute to reliable deployment practices, version control, cloud environments, and ongoing website optimization.This is an opportunity to make a direct technical impact in a remote, collaborative environment while working on sophisticated WordPress projects

Accountabilities

• Develop, customize, maintain, and optimize advanced WordPress websites, custom themes, and plugins.
• Independently manage live and production WordPress environments, ensuring reliability, availability, performance, and security.
• Own WordPress architecture and contribute to technical decisions covering development standards, integrations, scalability, performance, and security.
• Translate UI designs, layouts, and wireframes into responsive, functional, and visually accurate WordPress websites.
• Build and maintain solutions using PHP, WordPress Core, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, and MySQL.
• Develop reusable and maintainable code while following established WordPress and web development best practices.
• Diagnose, debug, and resolve technical issues using browser developer tools such as Chrome DevTools/Inspector and other troubleshooting techniques.
• Ensure websites provide consistent experiences across major browsers, devices, and screen sizes.
• Implement and maintain WordPress solutions using page builders such as Elementor and WPBakery where appropriate.
• Use Git and standard version-control practices to manage code, collaboration, and deployments.
• Collaborate with designers, backend teams, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, solve technical challenges, and deliver projects on schedule.
• Support performance optimization, caching, security improvements, and ongoing maintenance of WordPress environments.
• Contribute to cloud-based deployments and infrastructure, including AWS environments where required.
• Take ownership of production issues and independently identify practical, scalable solutions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in WordPress development, with a strong focus on custom development.
• Advanced knowledge of PHP and WordPress Core.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining custom WordPress themes and plugins.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage production WordPress systems and resolve live-site issues.
• Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, and MySQL.
• Experience converting design files, layouts, and wireframes into responsive WordPress websites.
• Hands-on experience with Elementor and/or WPBakery.
• Familiarity with Git and modern version-control practices.
• Exposure to AWS or other cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of website performance, security, debugging, and cross-browser/device compatibility.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to work with minimal supervision in a remote environment.
• Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with designers, developers, and business stakeholders.
• Experience with healthcare, hospital, pharmaceutical, or clinical websites is an advantage.
• Experience with WordPress Multisite or multilingual implementations is a plus.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL is desirable.
• Experience with advanced caching, performance optimization, and WordPress security is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments is a plus.
