This role is an opportunity to strengthen the quality and reliability of backend services, APIs, and infrastructure-oriented applications within a collaborative engineering <environment.You> will design and maintain robust Python-based test automation throughout the software development lifecycle.The position combines hands-on automation with API, Linux, networking, and virtualization <testing.You> will work closely with Engineering and Quality teams to identify risks, diagnose complex issues, and improve release readiness.Your work will provide continuous feedback through automated testing and CI/CD pipelines, helping deliver reliable products to customers.This is a backend-focused quality engineering role rather than a browser or UI automation <position.It> is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, learning new systems, and improving software quality through automation.
Accountabilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot Python-based automated tests for backend services, REST APIs, system integrations, and infrastructure-oriented applications.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites within continuous integration environments to provide timely quality feedback throughout development.
- Create test cases, test plans, test procedures, test reports, and other quality-related software artifacts.
- Execute test suites, investigate failures, reproduce and isolate defects, verify fixes, and diagnose issues using logs, API responses, databases, and system or network information.
- Derive testing requirements throughout the development lifecycle and contribute to test strategies aligned with project scope and delivery timelines.
- Review software documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, compliance, and potential risks.
- Provide Engineering teams with actionable recommendations regarding software functionality, usability, quality, and release readiness.
- Research and document technical findings, conduct historical analysis of test results, and identify opportunities to improve testing standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Engineering and Quality Engineering to evaluate problems, recommend solutions, and maintain a disciplined agile testing environment.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Python programming and test automation development, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and the ability to work effectively within an existing Python codebase.
- Practical experience with backend and API testing, including REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS, JSON, and database validation.
- Experience with Python testing frameworks such as pytest, unittest, Behave, or similar tools; BDD and Behave experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Git, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitLab Runners.
- Familiarity with Linux fundamentals, including command-line tools, logs, processes, services, and basic troubleshooting.
- Understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, ports, routing, subnets, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Experience working with virtual machines and virtualized environments is highly relevant to the role.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze failures across APIs, logs, databases, operating systems, and networks.
- Good problem-solving, communication, collaboration, attention to detail, and learning agility.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
- Experience with Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress may be useful, but UI automation alone is not sufficient for this position.
