Control and Instrumentation Technician ROLE PROFILE GENERAL Date August 2026 Location Rosh Pinah, Namibia Operations Skorpion Zinc Job Grade C4 (Paterson) / M8 (Vedanta) ROLE CONTEXT Skorpion Zinc Mine and Refinery is currently under Care and Maintenance, with a strategic focus on preserving critical assets, maintaining operational readiness, and safeguarding long-term asset value. Despite the Care and Maintenance status, the Company continues to uphold robust corporate governance, financial management, audit compliance, statutory obligations, strategic planning, and business sustainability processes to support future restart opportunities and long-term business objectives. The Control & Instrumentation Technician maintains the integrity, reliability and compliance of control, instrumentation, automation and radiation systems to ensure critical assets remain safe, preserved and restart-ready throughout the Care and Maintenance phase. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Reporting to the Technical Engineering Supervisor , the Control & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for preserving, maintaining and ensuring the integrity, reliability and compliance of all control, instrumentation, automation and radiation-based systems across the Mine and Refinery during the Care & Maintenance phase. The role supports asset preservation, statutory compliance and operational readiness by ensuring critical equipment remains safe, functional and restart ready. The incumbent also serves as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), ensuring compliance with all applicable radiation safety, regulatory and company requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Asset Preservation & Maintenance · Execute preventative, corrective and preservation maintenance on C&I equipment. · Perform inspections, testing, fault-finding and repairs. · Conduct calibration of critical instrumentation. · Maintain equipment reliability and asset integrity. · Monitor and manage critical instrumentation spares. 2. Control Systems & Automation · Maintain PLC, SCADA, HMI and communication systems. · Manage software backups and control system configurations. · Support automation troubleshooting and system optimization. · Maintain accurate control system documentation. 4. Asset Readiness & Restart Support · Assess equipment condition and restart readiness. · Identify refurbishment and replacement requirements. · Support commissioning and recommissioning activities. · Participate in technical risk assessments. 5. Projects & Continuous Improvement · Support approved engineering and reliability improvement projects. · Contribute to asset optimization and obsolescence management. · Identify cost-saving and reliability enhancement opportunities. · Implement technical improvements and best practices. 6. Administration & Reporting · Complete work orders, maintenance records and inspection reports. · Maintain calibration and equipment history records. · Update maintenance schedules and preservation documentation. · Prepare technical and regulatory reports. 7. Safety, Risk & Compliance · Adhere to all safety, health, environmental and quality requirements. · Participate in inspections, audits and risk assessments. · Ensure compliance with isolation and lockout procedures. · Report and address hazards, incidents and non-conformances. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Qualifications · National Diploma: Electronic Engineering – Instrumentation and Control or equivalent. · Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) Certification. · Basic Radiation Safety Training. Advantageous · Siemens PLC Programming and Maintenance Certification. · SCADA/HMI Systems Training. Experience · 5 years' experience in Control & Instrumentation maintenance within a mining, mineral processing, refinery, or heavy industrial environment. · Proven experience in the maintenance, calibration and fault-finding of instrumentation, control and automation systems. · Experience working with PLCs, SCADA systems, field instrumentation and industrial communication networks. · Experience in planned, preventative and corrective maintenance activities. · Experience managing radiation-based instrumentation and radioactive sources.
