Job Summary Maintains and repairs a variety of automotive and mechanical equipment, including university vehicles, golf carts, diesel-powered equipment, and trailers. Responsible for diagnosing issues, performing complex repairs, and supporting campus roadside assistance. This position is classified as essential personnel and may be required to respond during storms, hurricanes, or emergencies. Provides daily supervision and scheduling for Mechanic I personnel to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities Leads and performs routine service, complex repairs, and maintenance on university vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, tractors, mowers, backhoes, forklifts, electric carts, and trailers. Ensures all vehicles are mechanically sound and clean in appearance. Ensure the mechanics shop stays clean and organized. Uses computer diagnostic tools and technical expertise to identify and resolve vehicle issues, including problems with engines, electrical systems, and vehicle performance. Rebuilds vehicle systems and fabricates or modifies parts as needed using welding, grinders, cutting torches, or plasma cutters. Services and rebuilds small engines for needed equipment and performs maintenance and repair on vehicle air conditioning systems. Performs advanced repair and maintenance on diesel engines, heavy equipment, and tractors, including engine replacement or major overhauls. Supervises and assigns daily duties to Mechanic I staff, ensuring task completion and quality control. Purchases parts, tools, and supplies as needed to maintain shop operations and project timelines. Performs other related duties as assigned.
