About The Role
The role
At Ore Energy, we are on a mission to fundamentally expand the amount of energy society can reliably harness and use, helping move civilization toward a more abundant energy future. We are doing this by developing long-duration, utility-scale iron-air batteries that provide safe, low-cost, multi-day energy storage for electricity grids and data centers.
We are expanding our product development team and are looking for a hands-on, practical
Research & Development Technician
to join us in Amsterdam. In this key supportive role, you will assist our scientists and engineers in day-to-day laboratory operations, experimental preparation, component testing, and workshop activities for our next-generation battery technology.
Operating directly on the lab floor, your main focus will be executing practical tasks—preparing samples, assembling prototypes, running test procedures, maintaining equipment, and keeping the lab organized. We are looking for a reliable, team-oriented technician with a strong work ethic who enjoys working with their hands and ensuring our engineering trials run smoothly and safely.
Key responsibilities
Hands-on Technical Support
Assist scientists and engineers with daily practical tasks, including sample preparation, material handling, and setting up experimental rigs.
Assembly & Prototyping
Help build, modify, and assemble battery components, prototypes, and test setups according to clear engineering instructions.
Testing & Data Logging
Carry out routine measurements, experimental runs, and technical tests following step-by-step procedures; accurately record test results and observations.
Equipment Care & Maintenance
Operate, clean, calibrate, and perform basic routine maintenance on laboratory tools, test stands, and pilot equipment.
Lab Housekeeping & Safety
Keep workbenches, testing stations, and storage areas clean, safe, and well-organized at all times in compliance with lab safety guidelines.
Inventory & Consumables
Monitor lab inventory, track chemical/material stock levels, organize samples, and notify responsible team members when supplies need reordering.
Issue Reporting
Promptly flag equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or unexpected test outcomes to supervising engineers.
General Laboratory Duties
- Support the team with routine administrative and logistical tasks within the laboratory as required.
- Your profile
Education
Minimum MBO 3/4 vocational diploma (e.g., in a technical, mechanical, electrical, or chemical direction) or equivalent vocational training. High school graduation alone is not sufficient. A Bachelor’s degree (<B.Sc>.) is a plus, but

Experience
- 3+ years of practical experience
- working in a laboratory, workshop, technical facility, or R&D environment supporting scientists or engineers.
Practical & Mechanical Mindset
Strong hands-on inclination—comfortable using basic tools, handling hardware/materials safely, and working on physical lab setups.
Structured & Reliable
Careful and methodical in following work instructions, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Team-Oriented & Supportive
Positive attitude, eager to help, and comfortable taking direction from scientists and engineers to keep laboratory operations running effectively.
Communication
Professional English (spoken and written) to communicate clearly with our international engineering team.
