About The Role
Frontend EngineerABOUT NELONelo is a (profitable) leading consumer fintech and e-commerce platform in Mexico, with >$500MM in annualized GMV and >$70MM in annualized revenue. Our mission is to increase consumers' buying power in Latin America, and we're doing so by building an AI-native platform powered by credit.Nelo has raised over $40M of venture capital from investors including Homebrew, Two Sigma Ventures, and Susa Ventures. Nelo has additionally raised a $100M asset credit facility from Victory Park Capital. Our lean team includes experienced leaders from top technology companies such as Uber, Amazon, Rappi, and DiDi. We pride ourselves on our values:Everyone is an Owner Be our Best Selves Move Fast, Learn Fast Open & Honest Communication Customer-FirstWe pride ourselves on our velocity, intellectual rigor, and efficiency.Nelo has offices in Mexico City and New York City.WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENTAt most companies, a frontend engineer ships tickets against someone else's roadmap and waits weeks to see anything reach production. Nelo runs on 10 engineers moving a product that has processed over $1B in total GMV, which changes what the job actually <is.You> will own entire user-facing surfaces of the app that hundreds of thousands of people use to pay for real things with real money. There is no frontend guild to hand designs down to you and no release train to queue behind. You work directly with design and the founders, ship daily, and see the conversion impact of your work in the data the same <week. You> will also work AI-native from day one. Every engineer at Nelo uses agentic coding tools in their daily workflow, so a single frontend engineer here covers the surface area a team of four covers elsewhere. If you have wanted to find out what your ceiling is with modern tooling, this is the environment to find out.WHAT YOU'LL DOOwn the consumer experience end to endOwn major surfaces of the Nelo app: onboarding, checkout, payments, and credit flows, from design partnership through production monitoring.Ship experiments that move activation and conversion, and read your own results in the data.Raise the quality barSet the standard for performance, reliability, and polish in an app people trust with their money.Reduce frontend defects reaching production by building the testing and review practices you want to work <within.Build> with AI leverageUse Claude Code and other agentic tools as your default workflow, and push the team's practices forward as the tooling improves.Automate the repetitive parts of frontend work so your time goes to product judgment, not boilerplate.WHY YOU SHOULD APPLYYou have shipped consumer-facing mobile or web products at scale and can point to specific metrics your work <moved. You> have strong product judgment: you push back on designs when the flow is wrong, not just implement them <faithfully. You> are already using agentic coding tools daily, or you are eager to make them your primary <workflow. You> want ownership of a surface, not a slice of one, and you are comfortable being the person accountable for <it.You> care about the difference between an app that works and an app that feels trustworthy enough to handle someone's money.WHY YOU SHOULD NOT APPLYYou want a large frontend team around you. There are 10 engineers total. You will often be the only person on your <surface. You> need a PM to hand you fully specified tickets. Here you help decide what to build, and ambiguity is the default <state. You> are not interested in working in-office. This role is based in our Mexico City or New York City office, because the speed we ship at depends on engineers, design, and founders being in the same room. Remote is not an <option. You> are skeptical of AI-assisted development. It is not optional here; it is how the team <works.HOW> WE WORK~70 people across CDMX and New York. Lean, fast, opinionated about <quality.Engineering> is in-office, in Roma Norte (Mexico City) or Tribeca (New York City), given the proximity required with design, product, and the founders.Every team at Nelo uses AI in daily workflows. Engineering is no exception: Claude Code is standard issue.Tooling you will touch: Linear, Slack, Metabase, and our internal experimentation stack.WHO YOU ARERequiredEngineering background with substantial time shipping consumer-facing frontend in production (mobile or web).Deep fluency in a modern frontend stack (React / React Native or equivalent) and the judgment to know when the framework is not the answer.Comfort owning outcomes end to end: you have carried features from ambiguous idea to measured production impact.Working proficiency in English (our engineering documentation and much of our communication is in English).Strong signalsYou have worked on payments, checkout, or other money-moving <flows. You> use Claude Code or other agentic coding tools as a core part of how you <work. You> have shipped in a startup or small team where you were the frontend function, not a member of <it.You> have moved a conversion or activation metric and can walk us through how.COMPENSATION & BENEFITSIf based in Mexico City:Base Salary (MXN, monthly, gross)EquityNelo Leverage Time Program: We provide a budget for outsourcing and AI toolsMajor Medical Expenses Insurance100% medical, dental & vision coverage for you (50% for dependents)Unlimited PTOExtended maternity and paternity leaveRelocation supportA pet-friendly and fully equipped office in the heart of Mexico CitySabbatical ProgramIf based in New York City:Base Salary (USD, annual)EquityNelo Leverage Time Program: We provide a budget for outsourcing and AI tools100% medical, dental, and vision coverage (50% for dependents)Unlimited PTO401(k) for US residentsExtended maternity and paternity leaveRelocation supportA fully equipped office in TribecaSabbatical ProgramABOUT THE PROCESSWe move fast.
