Hours

~22 hours/week, flexible schedule with Sunday services required

Summary

The PCRE coordinates and delivers Protestant religious education for elementary-aged children (K–5) at MCAS Iwakuni Chapel. This includes leading weekly Children’s Church, organizing annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) and holiday programs, recruiting/training volunteers, and managing program logistics and records in support of the Command Chaplain’s ministry.

Key Duties

• Lead or supervise
• 52 weekly Children’s Church sessions
• per year.
• Plan and conduct
• 2 annual holiday specials
• (Christmas & Easter).
• Organize and run a
• 3-day summer VBS
• program.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise chapel volunteers; ensure completion of background checks per DoDI 1402.05.
• Manage program administration, budgeting, supply procurement, facility reservations, and audiovisual setup.
• Maintain volunteer rosters, attendance records, and program reports; submit monthly/annual reports to the Chaplain.
• Coordinate event publicity and marketing materials with Chapel Staff.
• Ensure compliance with safety and facility requirements aboard MCAS Iwakuni.

Qualifications

• Certification in Child or Youth Ministry from a recognized Christian denomination (required).
• Experience in Protestant children’s ministry leadership, volunteer management, and event planning.
• Completion of child protection training (e.g., Safe Church, Ministry Safe).
• Strong organizational, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with chapel staff and volunteers.
