About The Role
EHS Officer – Water Treatment Plant Department: Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Industry: Water Treatment / Utilities / Manufacturing Reporting To: EHS Manager / Plant Head Job Purpose Responsible for implementing and monitoring Environment, Health & Safety requirements at the water treatment plant, ensuring compliance with applicable statutory requirements, company standards, and safe operating procedures. Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Conduct daily safety inspections of the water treatment plant, pumps, chemical storage areas, electrical rooms, and work areas. Identify hazards and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions. Implement and monitor Permit-to-Work (PTW), LOTO, confined-space entry, work-at-height, hot-work, and excavation safety systems. Ensure proper use and availability of PPE. Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and regular EHS training. Monitor chemical handling and storage, including chlorine, acids, alkalis, coagulants, and other treatment chemicals. Ensure availability and inspection of emergency showers, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, spill kits, gas detectors, and other emergency equipment. Conduct risk assessments/JSA for plant operations and maintenance activities. Investigate incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions and prepare corrective-action reports. Participate in emergency drills, including chemical leakage, fire, confined-space rescue, and evacuation drills. Environmental Management Monitor compliance related to wastewater, sludge handling, chemical waste, and hazardous waste. Maintain required environmental records and support regulatory inspections. Monitor water quality, discharge parameters, chemical consumption, and waste-management practices as applicable. Ensure proper segregation, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Compliance & Documentation Maintain EHS inspection reports, training records, permits, incident reports, risk assessments, and statutory records. Support internal and external EHS audits. Track closure of audit observations and corrective actions. Ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Prepare monthly EHS performance reports and management dashboards. Required Qualifications Diploma/Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant EHS/Safety certification is preferred. Experience in a water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, chemical plant, manufacturing facility, or similar industrial environment is preferred. Required Skills Strong knowledge of industrial safety practices and EHS management systems. Knowledge of chemical handling and emergency response. Understanding of PTW, LOTO, confined-space safety, fire safety, and risk assessment. Good inspection, investigation, reporting, and communication skills. Ability to conduct safety training and toolbox talks. Good knowledge of MS Office and EHS documentation. Key Performance Indicators Reduction in incidents and near misses. Timely closure of EHS observations and corrective actions. Compliance with PTW/LOTO and other critical safety procedures. Completion of planned inspections and training. Statutory and audit compliance. Emergency preparedness and drill performance.
