About This Job

The Instructional Assistant assists students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. They will assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help special needs students, care for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and strives to promote dignity in all relationships.

Provide instructional and behavioral support for students

Support academic and vocational teachers in developing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on the individual student, their needs, interests and abilities

Assist in enforcing rules of behavior for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students

Assist teachers/instructors to implement IEPs for specific students

Guide students from one area of the program to another

Supervise students in common areas

Assist students with classroom assignments

Alert teachers to problems that may be observed

Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities

Regular and consistent attendance

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Experience working with students in special education programs
• Experience with reinforcing and supporting a positive classroom culture/environment based on diverse student needs

• Hourly rate of pay is $23.69 per hour
