About The Role
Plumber performs journey-level plumbing and steam fitting work in the installation, alteration and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, ventilating, heating control, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
This position/title is covered by the CSEA, Local 749 union contract. The successful candidate will be a member of the CSEA, Local 749 bargaining unit.
Rate
$22.25-$23.54, 40 hours per week, Union Grade: U-15
Requirements
Apprentice training in plumbing or training gained by the completion of technical courses in plumbing in a school, institute or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for-year basis.
Working knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing and steam fitting trade.
Working knowledge of applicable plumbing code
regulations
Working knowledge of the mathematics of the plumbing
trade
Working knowledge of hot water and steam heating systems and control
devices
Ability to plan, lay out and complete plumbing and steam fitting
work
Ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings and
specifications
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written
instructions
Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and materials of the plumbing and steam fitting trade
Ability to do moderately heavy lifting and to stand for prolonged periods of
time
Ability to prioritize and communicate with multiple internal and external vendors and departments to facilitate operations
Ability to lift 50+ pounds
Formal Education

- High school diploma/GED
Experience
-
- Four years of full-time experience under a journey-level plumber and/or steamfitter which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program
Additional Knoweledge/Skills
-
- Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the facility governing the activity of State wards under the supervision of a Plumber and Steamfitter
- Working knowledge of the practices and techniques of welding, brazing and soldering not requiring complex planning or use of special procedures
Essential Functions

complex mathematical calculations, statistical calculations and other higher mathematical operations, must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form.
The individual must be able to work independently.

Job Responsibilities
Repairs, maintains and installs plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, shower baths, commodes, drinking fountains, dishwashers, valves including pneumatic controls, gas and water meters, gas hot water heaters and other gas appliances, heating systems and controls, and various steam equipment used in laundries, kitchens and cafeterias, water pumps and hydrotherapy equipment
Troubleshoots failing equipment, requests replacement parts and performs
repairs
Remove decommissioned equipment and installs new
equipment
Plans and lays out the installation, alteration and repair of high and low pressure pipe systems that carry water, steam, air or other liquids or gases
Plans new installations, alterations to existing installations and major repairs consistent with specifications, plans and plumbing codes
Water Softener installation and
repair
Sprinkler testing and
repair
Photo mixing valve and equipment
repair
Maintain Non-hazardous waste systems for proper working and
disposal
Assist other areas of the Facilities team as needed for emergencies, projects or events as assigned by your supervisor
Working under the principles of Inclusivity, Mentorship and Intersections when interacting with employees, students and others
Other
Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment

Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as
assigned
Physical Enviroment
Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; Artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals.
