Veterinary Officer

Duties

A Veterinary Officer is mainly deployed on investigation, diagnosis, control and prevention of animal diseases and zoonoses; monitoring and enhancement of animal welfare; inspection of animals and animal products for import and export; and licensing and enforcement of relevant legislation.

(Note: May be required to work irregular hours and shifts; be posted to other departments such as Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Leisure and Cultural Services Department; work in the New Territories; and drive a departmental vehicle.)

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have –

(a) registered in Hong Kong under the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance, Cap. 529 (Note 2);

(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (Note 3); and

(c) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (Note 4).

Pay

Master Pay Scale Point 31 ($75,830) to Master Pay Scale Point 44 ($122,045) per month

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

For candidates holding qualifications obtained from academic institutions outside Hong Kong, copies of diplomas/certificates, transcripts of studies and official documents issued by the relevant academic institutions stating the mode of delivery of the study programmes should be submitted to the designated e-mail address (<[email hidden]>) on or before 28 August 2026 with “Application for the post of Veterinary Officer” stated in the email subject. The online application number should also be quoted in the e-mail and every page of the supporting documents.

Candidates who hold academic qualifications awarded by local institutions/ Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority are not required to submit photocopies of the official transcripts and certificates at this stage of application.
