Technical Instructor (Garment)

Duties

A Technical Instructor (Garment) is mainly deployed on (a) supervising subordinates in performing their duties; (b) supervising persons in custody in correctional facilities, and training and instructing those engaging in garment or personal protective equipment production; (c) overseeing work processes including but not limited to sewing, material estimation, pattern making, cutting, pressing, packaging, quality assurance, machines and equipment operation and maintenance; (d) preparing vocational training materials and teaching related classes; (e) enforcing the Code of Practice on Occupational Safety & Health and related regulations; and (f) performing any other duties as assigned.

(Note: Subject to the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance; the appointee may be required to wear uniform, work shifts, work in remote areas and live in departmental quarters.)

Entry Requirements

Candidates should (a) have completed an apprenticeship or institutional training in clothing or textile industry; and be able to furnish evidence that they have had relevant working experience in clothing or textile production [Note 1 under Entry Requirements]. Total period of training and working experience should not be less than 10 years; (b) have attained a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Secondary 3 standard; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and simple English; (c) undergo and pass a trade test in garment making [Notes 2 under Entry Requirements]; and (d) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [Note 3 under Entry Requirements].

Pay

Disciplined Services (Officer) Pay Scale Point 5 ($41,305) to Disciplined Services (Officer) Pay Scale Point 15 ($70,095) per month.

Terms of Appointment

A new appointee will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Candidates who are selected for the trade test in garment making will normally receive invitations in about two months from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for the abovementioned test may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
