Locomotive Mechanic

About The Role
General Duties
- Operate general hand tools
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, air brakes, running gear and other locomotive components
- Inspect, repair, and install electrical components
- Fabricate, cut, shape, and perform finish operations using various types of materials
- Perform periodic service on locomotives
- Comply with railroad safety and operating rules
Job Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to work from written and verbal instructions
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, adhere to work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to work varying shifts, including weekends and overtime as required
- Must be able to occasionally work in varying weather conditions
- Must be able to submit to and be able to pass a drug screen
- Maintain a good attendance record
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be willing to wear required personal protective equipment
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
- Must be able to carry and lift 30 lbs. frequently and push and pull 75 lbs. frequently
- Must be able to carry and lift occasionally 50-90 lbs., push and pull 250 lbs. and grip 100 lbs.
