About The Role

Position Title: Behavioral Health Counselor MS Shift: Full-Time, Day Location: White Hospital (Outpatient Clinic within the hospital) Position Overview: Provides outpatient therapy services within a licensed outpatient clinic setting. Facilitates patient engagement in treatment through individual, family, and group counseling. Supports emotional and social well-being by conducting psychosocial assessments and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Serves as a resource for crisis intervention when needed and maintains a safe, supportive environment for patients. This role does not include discharge planning but focuses on therapy delivery and crisis support. Key Responsibilities: Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide therapeutic interventions tailored to patient needs. Facilitate individual, family, and group counseling sessions. Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and access to resources. Provide crisis intervention and support for patients experiencing acute emotional distress. Document clinical activities accurately in electronic medical records. Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and legal entities as needed. Ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and support daily programming. Qualifications & Requirements: Master’s Degree from an accredited college in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community experience. License-eligible in Indiana as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LCAC; must have a permanent LSW, LMHC-A, or LMFT-A upon hire. Certification in crisis intervention may be required; BLS certification may also be required. Knowledge of evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT), crisis de-escalation, and applicable legal mandates. Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan. Ability to provide a safe, therapeutic environment and instruct daily activities. Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong relationship-building skills with community, healthcare, law enforcement, and social agencies. Why IU Health?
