Control Systems Software Engineer
Centrus Global Career Site · Oak Ridge, TN, United States
About The Role
Position Summary
The Senior Controls Software Development Engineer serves as the technical lead for automated sensor calibration systems and test stand equipment. This role is responsible for developing the software, controls, data architecture, and analytics infrastructure required to automate calibration processes and provide complete traceability of calibration records throughout their lifecycle.
Working closely with controls, instrumentation, metrology, quality, operations, and data teams, the successful candidate will design and build National Instruments (NI) data acquisition systems, develop LabVIEW-based calibration software, and establish the data pipelines and analysis tools that collect, store, validate, and analyze calibration data. The engineer will also evaluate and select data platform architectures, including integration with Palantir Foundry and related data technologies.
All work is performed under an NQA-1 quality program within an NRC-regulated environment, requiring the highest standards of technical rigor, accuracy, repeatability, and documentation.
What You'll Do
As the technical leader for calibration automation, you will drive the design and implementation of advanced calibration systems supporting a wide range of instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors, as well as specialized test stand equipment. You will evaluate, select, configure, and integrate National Instruments data acquisition hardware and reference standards while developing robust LabVIEW applications that automate calibration sequences, capture high-fidelity measurement data, and support long-term operational reliability.
You will establish the software architecture, coding standards, reusable development libraries, and quality practices that guide the calibration software program. In addition, you will develop control logic for automated sequencing, system stabilization, and process setpoint management using LabVIEW and PLC technologies where appropriate. Working at the intersection of controls engineering and digital transformation, you will evaluate data management solutions, recommend platform architectures, and lead the integration of calibration systems with Palantir Foundry, databases, historians, and related enterprise technologies.
A significant part of the role involves building data pipelines and designing data models that provide complete calibration traceability, linking equipment records with reference standards, procedures, operators, asset identifiers, and calibration results. You will develop analytical tools that evaluate calibration curves, measurement uncertainty, drift performance, statistical trends, and pass/fail criteria, while creating dashboards and reporting tools that provide visibility into equipment status, calibration schedules, out-of-tolerance conditions, and long-term performance metrics.
You will also develop operator interfaces that simplify calibration execution and review, author technical documentation including software requirements, data specifications, test procedures, and calibration instructions, and ensure systems are verified and validated through rigorous testing programs. Success in this role requires maintaining compliance with NQA-1 software quality standards, configuration management requirements, version control processes, and audit-ready documentation practices.
In partnership with cybersecurity, quality, and operational technology teams, you will support data integrity, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements while investigating measurement anomalies, troubleshooting complex system issues, and leading root-cause analyses. As a senior member of the engineering organization, you will mentor junior engineers, provide technical leadership across disciplines, and coordinate the work of vendors and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
