About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineer (PE) – Project Manager at Z Modular, you will lead the mechanical engineering delivery of complex building projects, with a primary focus on data center and mission-critical infrastructure as well as multifamily projects. This is a technical project leadership role for a licensed Professional Engineer who can take ownership of MEP project execution, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and provide the engineering oversight needed to move projects from design through fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.
The role combines licensed mechanical engineering expertise with project leadership. You will coordinate engineers, designers, consultants, manufacturing teams, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to keep complex projects moving while ensuring technical quality, constructability, schedule, and project requirements are met.
This position is perfect for a licensed Mechanical Engineer who enjoys owning complex projects, leading cross-functional teams, and applying their technical expertise to large-scale, fast-moving projects where engineering decisions directly impact how projects are designed, manufactured, and built.
What You’ll Do
- Lead mechanical engineering and MEP project delivery from pre-design through fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
- Manage projects with a primary focus on data center and mission-critical environments, while also supporting multifamily projects.
- Provide professional engineering oversight and sign/seal MEP drawings when required.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical design deliverables, including HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, hydronic, and related building systems.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts across mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural, manufacturing, and construction teams.
- Manage project scope, schedules, priorities, milestones, risks, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Guide project teams and coordinate the people and resources supporting MEP execution.
- Review mechanical plans, specifications, design calculations, equipment schedules, shop drawings, submittals, and fabrication documents.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable mechanical, plumbing, building, energy, and other governing codes and standards.
- Serve as a technical and project-management partner to internal teams, consultants, vendors, contractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Identify technical and project risks early and drive issue resolution to protect schedule, quality, and project objectives.
- Lead design reviews, coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and technical issue-resolution activities.
- Partner with manufacturing and field teams to ensure designs translate successfully into fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
- Support equipment selection and coordination of mechanical materials, systems, and components.
- Perform site visits, field verification, troubleshooting, and project oversight as needed.
- Communicate project status, technical issues, risks, schedule impacts, and key decisions clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
- Support standardization and continuous-improvement initiatives across mechanical design and project execution.
