Senior Software Engineer (Toast Connect)

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Java / Kotlin and AWS infrastructure.
• Lead complex projects that may span multiple teams & systems, champion best practices such as quality automated testing and phased rollouts.
• Collaborate with peer engineers, provide design feedback, and participate in code reviews, mentor & coach your peer engineers.

• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts, asynchronous messaging (Kafka, Pulsar, or AWS SQS/SNS), and cloud platforms (AWS)
• Demonstrate humility, empathy and respectfulness
• Strong communication & problem-solving skills, curiosity to learn restaurant domain workflows, and enthusiasm for collaborating in an agile, cross-functional team
• Have strong understanding & hands-on experience of building RESTful apis, fault-tolerant, highly-scalable & secure distributed systems
• Proficiency with sql/nosql databases, strong understanding of distributed datastores and knowledge of when to use what
• 5+ years professional backend software development in Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented language, with solid instincts around testing and code quality
