Medical Secretary I

Provides office support to Department. Is responsible for Revenue Cycle functions including registration, account processing, insurance verification and authorization. Schedules patients according to department policy. Filing and typing as necessary. Maintains patient and data files. Orders supplies and other items as needed.

• Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work related experience. Proficiency in MS Office required: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint. Bilingual preferred. Work requires communication skills needed to frequently answer telephone calls and work with multiple interruptions and still sustain positive communication.

• Cross training is required for the following functions to safeguard appropriate patient scheduling and billing processes:
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for procedures and diagnostic tests. Communicate with insurance companies as needed to resolve any issues.
  • Obtain accurate subscriber information for the identification of the correct insurance plan code, policy numbers, group numbers, and person identification numbers in the appropriate billing system.
  • Enter all charges, modifiers, ICD10'S, and CPT procedure codes as per finance and medical records policy
  • Ensure that all operative reports and encounter forms are turned in for billing within the designated timeframes.
