Senior Systems Integration Engineer
Rolls-Royce SMR Limited · Derby, United Kingdom
About The Role
Role: Senior Systems Integration Engineer
Location: Hybrid working with Derby, Warrington or Manchester as your primary base
Our mission
Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) offers a British solution to a global energy challenge, placing us at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation opportunity and positioning the UK as a future world leader in clean energy technology.
The team
Systems Engineering is fundamental to the successful delivery of the Rolls-Royce SMR programme. It provides the framework that connects customer and stakeholder needs, requirements, architectures, interfaces, design solutions, verification activities and assurance evidence across the entire engineering lifecycle.
The Systems Engineering team is responsible for developing and continuously improving the capability, methods, processes and digital tools that enable our engineers to design, integrate and assure a complex nuclear product. As the organisation grows, the team is driving the adoption of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Requirements Management and an integrated digital engineering environment that will support the delivery of a fleet of SMRs.
The role
We are looking for a Senior Systems Integration Engineer to help shape and deliver the Systems Engineering capability that underpins the Rolls-Royce SMR programme.
This is a high-impact role operating across the engineering organisation, where you will lead work packages that improve how engineering information, requirements, models and design decisions are created, managed and connected. You will be instrumental in developing and embedding Systems Engineering frameworks, MBSE approaches and digital integration solutions that enable engineers to work more effectively and efficiently.
Working across multiple disciplines, you will tackle complex technical and organisational challenges, influence stakeholders at all levels and help drive adoption of new engineering tools, methods and ways of working. Your work will contribute directly to the creation of a coherent digital thread that supports the design, integration, verification and assurance of our product throughout its lifecycle.
What we'll need you to do
We'll need you to:
- Lead the development and implementation of Systems Engineering capability across people, processes, methods, data and digital tools
- Develop, improve and embed practical Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches across the engineering organisation
- Define and maintain frameworks that connect stakeholder needs, requirements, functions, architectures, interfaces, verification and assurance evidence
- Support the integration of engineering information across MBSE, Requirements Management and wider engineering toolsets
- Establish effective approaches for traceability, configuration management, change impact assessment and information governance
- Drive integration between systems engineering tools such as Siemens Polarion, Capella and other digital engineering platforms
- Translate business and programme requirements into scalable engineering processes, guidance and best practice
- Lead stakeholder engagement activities to ensure successful adoption of Systems Engineering methods and tools
- Facilitate workshops and work collaboratively with engineering teams to solve complex integration challenges
- Deliver high-impact work packages whilst managing risks, dependencies and competing priorities
- Coach and support engineers in Systems Engineering methodologies and best practice
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering efficiency, consistency and data quality
What you'll bring
As you can see, this is a pivotal role requiring a combination of technical expertise, systems thinking and strong stakeholder management skills. You'll be comfortable operating through ambiguity, influencing large engineering communities and delivering practical solutions to complex problems.
We'll also be looking for:
- Degree-qualified in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Significant experience applying Systems Engineering principles within a complex engineering environment
- Experience working with Requirements Management and Systems Engineering frameworks
- Strong understanding of requirements decomposition, traceability, verification and validation principles
- Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches in practice
- Knowledge of systems engineering toolsets such as Siemens Polarion, Capella or equivalent platforms
- Experience integrating engineering processes, data and tools within a digital engineering environment
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to drive change across diverse teams
- Experience leading complex work packages and delivering through ambiguity
- Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills
- Experience within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, defence, energy or rail would be advantageous
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and/or INCOSE certification would be beneficial but is not essential
Location
We offer hybrid working, with an expectation to attend our offices in Derby, Warrington or Manchester on a weekly basis to support collaboration, stakeholder engagement and team activities.
What's in it for you
- The salary for this role is competitive and dependent on the skills and experience you bring in the range of £50,650-£66,500
- Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
- Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
