About The Role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Product Manager, Payments based in Canada.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced product professional to shape payment experiences across travel transactions and subscription-based services in a fast-growing, remote-first technology environment. You will lead a cross-functional, mission-aligned team responsible for improving payment reliability, authorization rates, transaction costs, and overall payment performance. Working closely with engineering, data, finance, commercial stakeholders, and payments leadership, you will translate business objectives into clear product requirements and measurable outcomes. You will oversee roadmap execution, prioritize technical initiatives, and use data-driven experimentation to optimize payment routing and retry strategies. The role also offers opportunities to support international expansion by evaluating local payment methods and adapting payment capabilities to new markets. This is an individual contributor position where influence, technical understanding, and strong product judgment are essential to delivering scalable, secure, and profitable payment solutions.

Accountabilities

Shape the payments roadmap: Collaborate with payments leadership to define priorities, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend data-backed adjustments to product strategy based on business performance and customer needs.
Own product planning and prioritization: Manage the mission-aligned team's backlog, establish clear priorities, facilitate planning sessions, and ensure day-to-day execution remains aligned with strategic objectives.
Translate business needs into requirements: Write detailed product requirement documents and business specifications that address technical dependencies, payment failure scenarios, reconciliation implications, and clearly defined scope boundaries.
Lead cross-functional delivery: Coordinate engineering, data, product, and commercial stakeholders to deliver payment initiatives from discovery and requirements through implementation and launch. Remove blockers, manage scope, and escalate significant trade-offs when priorities or timelines need to change.
Optimize payment routing and authorization: Design and evaluate routing and retry experiments, analyze authorization outcomes, and recommend improvements that increase successful transactions while controlling payment processing costs.
Improve payment performance through analytics: Monitor authorization rates, decline patterns, cost per transaction, and settlement performance, translating findings into actionable recommendations for the team and payments leadership.
Support international market expansion: Research payment infrastructure and alternative payment method availability in new markets, identify local requirements, and develop product specifications to support international launches.
Coordinate with fraud and disputes teams: Work with dedicated fraud prevention and disputes specialists on initiatives involving payment routing, authorization rates, authentication decisions, and other interconnected payment processes.
Contribute to financial and operational reporting: Support monthly payments reporting for Finance, including delivery progress, performance against targets, and upcoming priorities.
Monitor industry and regulatory developments: Track changes in payment regulations, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), card network rules, and alternative payment method adoption, assessing their implications for the product roadmap.

Requirements

Product management experience: At least 5 years of product management experience, including 1 or more years working with payments, fintech, checkout, or billing products.
Payments infrastructure knowledge: A working understanding of modern payment ecosystems, including gateways, processors, acquirers, tokenization, and alternative payment methods.
Transaction lifecycle expertise: Familiarity with one-time payment flows, including authorization holds, delayed capture, and settlement, or recurring billing mechanics such as retries, dunning, and stored payment credentials, with the willingness to develop expertise across both models.
End-to-end product delivery: A proven track record of shipping product features in partnership with engineering teams, from requirements definition and prioritization through launch and evaluation.
Strong product management craft: The ability to write clear, actionable specifications, explain prioritization decisions, define measurable outcomes, and maintain disciplined scope management.
Technical and analytical fluency: Comfort working closely with engineers, understanding technical trade-offs, interpreting payment performance data, and using evidence to guide product decisions.
Cross-functional leadership: Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, maintaining execution momentum without formal authority, resolving dependencies, and escalating significant risks or decisions appropriately.
Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex requirements and recommendations clearly to technical teams and business stakeholders.
Adaptability and ownership: A resourceful, self-directed approach, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Additional advantages: Experience supporting payment launches in APAC, the European Economic Area (EEA), or Latin America (LATAM); working in high-volume consumer businesses, marketplaces, travel, or e-commerce; or analyzing disputes and chargeback data.
