Technical Buyer ROLE PROFILE GENERAL Date October 2026 Location Aggeneys, Northern Cape Operations BMC Shared Services Job Grade D1 (Paterson) / M8 (Vedanta) ROLE CONTEXT BMC Shared Services provides centralised commercial and procurement support to Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) operations, including Gamsberg and Black Mountain Mine (BMM). These operations require reliable, timely and technically accurate procurement of goods and services to support mining, processing, engineering, maintenance and projects activities. The Technical Buyer (D1) plays a enabling role by executing technical procurement activities in line with approved contracts, supply agreements and governance standards. The role ensures correct sourcing, ordering and expediting of technically complex goods and services while supporting contract compliance, cost control and operational continuity. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To execute and manage the procurement of technical goods and services in accordance with approved contracts, specifications and commercial governance requirements, ensuring timely availability, cost effectiveness, quality compliance and uninterrupted operational support. The role ensures: · Efficient execution of technical purchase orders · Compliance with approved contracts and sourcing strategies · Accurate technical specifications and vendor alignment · Timely delivery of critical materials and services · Effective support to operations, engineering and maintenance teams RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Technical Procurement Execution · Execute purchase orders for technically complex goods and services in line with approved contracts and sourcing strategies. · Ensure purchase orders align with technical specifications, scope of work and pricing agreements. · Verify requisitions for accuracy, completeness and compliance prior to conversion to purchase orders. 2. Contract Implementation Support · Support the Contract Implementation Specialist by ensuring correct application of contract terms, pricing, scope and conditions. · Ensure procurement activity adheres to approved supply agreements and call ‑ off mechanisms. · Flag deviations from contract terms and escalate where required. 3. Supplier & Business Partner Coordination · Liaise with approved suppliers and business partners to confirm availability, lead times and delivery schedules. · Expedite critical orders to avoid operational downtime. · Resolve delivery, quality or documentation issues in collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Support compliance with SHE, legal and commercial requirements. 4. Technical Compliance & Specification Management · Ensure all purchased items meet technical, engineering and operational requirements. · Work with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations to clarify specifications and scope where required. · Ensure correct documentation (datasheets, certificates, manuals) is obtained and recorded. 5. ERP / Procurement System Administration · Process purchase orders, order amendments and cancellations in the approved procurement systems. · Maintain accurate records of transactions, delivery schedules and vendor communications. · Ensure procurement data integrity for reporting and audit purposes. 6. Cost Control & Commercial Governance · Ensure procurement activity is conducted within approved budgets and pricing frameworks. · Support cost ‑ control initiatives by applying preferred suppliers and negotiated rates. · Identify and escalate pricing discrepancies or potential cost risks. 7. Stakeholder Engagement & Operational Support · Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Projects, Stores and Operations teams to ensure procurement aligns with operational priorities. · Provide regular status updates on orders and deliveries. · Support shutdowns, projects and critical maintenance activities through proactive procurement planning. 8. Reporting, Documentation & Audit Support · Maintain procurement documentation, purchase records and audit ‑ ready files. · Prepare procurement status reports, expediting reports and delivery tracking updates. · Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and complete procurement records. 9. Safety, Health & Compliance Integration · Ensure all procurement activities comply with Zero Harm standards. · Support HSE requirements by ensuring procured goods and services meet safety and legal standards. · Participate in VFLs, walk ‑ downs, PTOs and risk assessments (IBRA/HIRA) when required, particularly when supporting site ‑ based procurement activities. · Report safety concerns related to supplied goods or services. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Qualifications · Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, Logistics or related field. · Technical procurement or engineering exposure advantageous. · Valid driver’s licence and medical fitness. Experience · 3–5 years’ experience in technical procurement or buying within mining, engineering or heavy industrial environments. · Experience sourcing technical goods, engineering services and operational materials. · Exposure to contract ‑ based procurement and supplier performance management advantageous. Technical Competence · Strong understanding of technical procurement processes. · Ability to interpret basic engineering drawings, specifications and scopes of work. · Procurement system and ERP proficiency. · Strong documentation, tracking and reporting capability. · Cost awareness and contract ‑ compliance discipline.
