ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), reporting to the Director-Finance, is the finance lead and strategic partner for an assigned business unit of Lilly Canada. Going well beyond producing the numbers, this role owns the financial story of the business: shaping strategy with the leadership team, owning the forecast and plan, and preparing the business for upcoming launches. With reporting fully automated through AI and digital tools, the role focuses on insight and decision support, while supporting fellow analysts on the FP&A team.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Toronto office, with an expectation of at least 10 days per month on-site, as agreed with your manager.

At Lilly Canada, we have multiple levels for this position based on the candidate’s experience, background, and qualifications. The expected compensation is:

  • Associate: $63,000 - $92,400
  • Sr Associate: $79,500 - $116,600
  • Manager: $93,750 - $137,500

This role is eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as participation in the Lilly Bonus Program.

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnering

  • Go beyond supporting the numbers to own the financial narrative behind the business, translating performance drivers into clear, compelling insights for leadership.
  • Lead the SBR (Forecasting cycle) and Business Plan (BP) process for the assigned business unit, framing the story of performance, risks, and opportunities for the leadership team.
  • Challenge business assumptions and OPEX spend, advise on trade-offs, and shape decisions alongside Marketing, Pricing, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to drive the best return on investment.

Forecasting & P&L Management

  • Own the quarterly forecasts and annual business plan for Revenue and OPEX, ensuring cross-functional alignment and leadership sign-off.
  • Build and refine demand models as market trends and performance evolve, keeping forecasts aligned with supply.
  • Lead P&L management across the product lifecycle, from pre-launch through loss of exclusivity.
  • Drive innovation readiness work to prepare the business for upcoming launches and pipeline assets.

AI & Automation

  • Lead the use of AI to enhance financial modelling and analysis and to automate repetitive manual work.
  • Deliver fully automated reporting, including variance analysis and scorecards, shifting the role's focus from production to insight and decision support.

Decision Support

  • Build business cases and dynamic financial models for pricing and a range of strategic initiatives, incorporating sensitivity and multi-scenario analysis.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape and assess the impact of regulatory, economic, and other environmental changes on the business.

Month-End Close

  • Lead the month-end close for the assigned business unit, reviewing actual results against budget and the latest forecast to confirm that Revenue and OPEX are accurate, complete, and correctly coded.
  • Ensure accruals are posted so that expenses are recorded in the month they are incurred, working with budget owners to confirm goods and services received but not yet invoiced.
  • Explain the story behind the month: deliver clear variance commentary on key drivers (volume, price, mix, timing, and one-time items).

Team Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Support other analysts on the FP&A team by sharing knowledge, providing guidance and feedback on their work, and helping build team capability.
  • Collaborate closely with the FP&A team and broader Finance partners, including the Statutory, Tax, and HR teams, on shared priorities such as external reporting, headcount tracking, and the simplification and standardization of planning processes.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and cross-functional initiatives as business needs arise, upholding high standards of integrity, fiscal responsibility, and business ownership.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in finance, FP&A, accounting, or related business disciplines, including business partnering with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to mentor and support others, collaborate effectively across teams, and achieve results through others.
  • Strong analytical and financial storytelling skills, with the ability to turn complex data into clear, concise insights and recommendations for senior, non-financial audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence decision-makers without direct authority.
  • Strong attention to detail, combined with the ability to step back and see the bigger picture
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple objectives in a fast-paced, changing environment, with strong learning agility and adaptability.
  • Advanced financial modelling and systems skills, with hands-on experience applying AI and automation to finance processes; experience with SAP and FP&A system implementation is an asset.
  • Pharmaceutical or healthcare experience is an asset, but not a requirement.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • CPA designation required; MBA or equivalent is an asset.
