About The Role

  • Competitive salary + health and life insurance
  • Four-bedroom house
  • 3,000 breeding ewes and 1,600 finishing steers

Step into a well-supported leadership role and help shape the next chapter at Waitere Farm.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Following the current Farm Manager’s internal promotion, this is an opportunity to lead a well-established sheep and beef operation and build on a strong foundation of proven performance.
You’ll bring fresh thinking and a collaborative leadership style, maintaining what is working well while identifying the next opportunities across livestock and pasture performance, farm systems, infrastructure, and long-term planning.
Leading Waitere means bringing together the people, planning, commercial decisions, and day-to-day operations that keep a farming business performing well. You’ll provide clear direction while staying connected to the practical work happening across the farm.
You’ll work closely with an experienced Business Manager and be supported by Pāmu’s wider specialist teams across HR, finance, communications, sustainability, and health and safety. You’ll have practical expertise to draw on, along with the trust and autonomy to lead the day-to-day operation and make the decisions that keep the farm performing at a high level.
This opportunity could suit an experienced Farm Manager or a capable farming leader ready to step into their first Farm Manager role. You’ll understand what drives sustained livestock and pasture performance and be motivated by the opportunity to build on Waitere’s success and help shape its next chapter.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll bring broad sheep and beef experience, sound commercial judgement, and an inclusive, practical approach to leadership. You’ll be comfortable planning ahead, supporting your team, and balancing livestock performance with the wider operational needs of an intensive hill country property.
You’ll bring:

  • A practical leadership style, with a genuine interest in coaching, developing, and bringing people together
  • Experience coordinating contractors, including planning work, making phone calls, managing logistics, and keeping costs on track
  • Good budgeting, forecasting, and planning skills, or the readiness to keep growing in this area
  • A continuous-improvement mindset, with the ability to protect what is working well while identifying the next gains across livestock, pasture, infrastructure, and farm systems
  • A clear commitment to animal welfare, health and safety, and caring for the environment
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work well with a wide range of people
  • Confidence using farm systems, reporting tools, and data to understand performance and make good decisions

We’re proud to have a supportive and inclusive culture at Pāmu, and we encourage applications from people who share our values – even if you don’t tick every box.
