GCP Platform Engineer
NCS Australia · Sydney, NSW, Australia
About The Role
As a Google Cloud Platform Engineer at NCS (Google Cloud Solutions Group), you will work hands-on, designing, documenting, securing, and building critical enterprise platform component solutions leading into our January go-live.
While our existing team is exceptionally capable, this role specifically addresses an urgent need for deep Google Cloud expertise to bridge a solution design capability gap. You will take ownership of designing and building approximately 15 core platform components—ranging from secrets management to advanced CI/CD pipelines—ensuring every design aligns with enterprise security architecture, incorporates security feedback, and supports a secure-by-default, zero-trust approach.
Key Responsibilities & Project Focus
-
Component Solution Design & Documentation: Design, document, secure, and build approximately 15 distinct platform component solutions ahead of the January go-live milestone. Produce high-quality design documentation that defines best practices and guides the broader engineering team.
-
Security Architecture & Governance: Work closely with security architects to incorporate feedback, evolve designs, and successfully navigate solutions through the enterprise security review process.
-
Core Platform Build: Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable GCP solutions and services (e.g., Cloud Run, GKE, Google Cloud VMware Engine, Compute Engine).
-
Infrastructure as Code & GitOps: Build and manage enterprise-level IaC using Terraform delivered via a GitOps methodology.
-
Modern CI/CD & Automation: Implement and optimize end-to-end automation pipelines using GitHub and GitHub Actions, alongside Python or Bash scripting.
-
Observability & Service Mesh: Implement robust observability tooling (such as New Relic, forthcoming OpenTelemetry adoption, and service-mesh solutions) to ensure deep telemetry and operational visibility.
-
Cloud Networking & Security: Architect secure cloud network topologies (VPCs, subnets, firewalls, load balancing, DNS) while applying rigorous threat-mitigation techniques.
-
Deep GCP Expertise: Demonstrated history designing, implementing, or managing secure Google Cloud solutions at an enterprise level. (Note: While specialized expertise is required, you will work alongside principal engineers and existing experts, meaning you do not need to be an expert in every single auxiliary tool).
-
Solution Design & Documentation: Proven track record of producing high-quality technical documentation that bridges solution architecture with hands-on build execution.
-
Security Collaboration: Strong background working collaboratively with security architects in a secure-by-default, zero-trust framework.
-
Advanced Infrastructure as Code: Advanced-level Terraform development experience for automated platform delivery.
-
Core Technical Tooling: Experience across GitHub / GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines, and modern observability frameworks (e.g., New Relic, OpenTelemetry, or service-mesh architectures).
-
Certifications: Hold one or more Professional-level Google Cloud certifications (Cloud Architect, Cloud DevOps Engineer, or Cloud Developer).
