Company: Wahoo Docks, a Meeco Sullivan company
Location: Dahlonega, GA (on-site)
Reports To: Division Manager
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Compensation: $70,000 – $75,000, plus bilingual premium of $3,000 – $5,000

About the Role

Wahoo Docks, a Meeco Sullivan company, is hiring a bilingual (English/Spanish) HR & Safety Manager to serve as the on-site HR leader for our Dahlonega manufacturing plant. This is an HR role first. You will own employee relations, workplace investigations, disciplinary matters, recruiting, leave and benefits, payroll preparedness, and employment law compliance for a production workforce in which many employees speak Spanish as their primary language. You will work closely with plant leadership, supervisors, and our corporate HR and safety teams.
You will also own plant safety and workers’ compensation, so hands-on safety experience is required. That includes managing workers’ compensation claims from start to finish, leading incident investigations and root cause analysis, presenting findings to management, running Safety Committee meetings, and conducting safety audits on the production floor. Our corporate Health & Safety team provides program support and additional training.
Fluency in English and Spanish is required. You will conduct employee relations meetings, investigations, disciplinary conversations, and training directly in both languages, without an interpreter.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources (Primary Focus)

  • Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and managers in the Dahlonega Division, in English and Spanish.
  • Investigate, document, and resolve employee relations issues, including performance, conduct, and workplace conflict, with objectivity and sound judgment.
  • Manage disciplinary matters and conduct workplace investigations, ensuring documentation is consistent and defensible.
  • Administer benefits and leave management, including FMLA and other leave programs.
  • Lead recruitment: post open positions, interview candidates, and hire qualified applicants.
  • Maintain recruiting records in ATS.
  • Conduct background checks, employment eligibility verification (Form I-9), and new hire orientation.
  • Enter payroll requests, manage timecard approvals, and audit payroll registers.
  • Maintain employee records in Workday and support data accuracy and reporting.
  • Lead employee morale, engagement, and training and development initiatives.
  • Deliver HR communications and mandatory compliance training in English and Spanish.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, Georgia, and local employment laws.

Safety & Workers’ Compensation

  • Maintain and improve the behavior-based safety program in partnership with the corporate Health & Safety team.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims from start to finish: first report of injury, carrier communication, medical treatment and work restrictions, modified duty, return to work, and claim closure.
  • Lead investigations of accidents, injuries, and near misses; complete root cause analysis; and present findings and corrective action plans to management.
  • Run monthly Safety Committee meetings, including the agenda, minutes, and follow-up on action items.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly safety audits on the production floor, identify hazards, and drive corrective actions to completion.
  • Deliver health and safety orientation for new employees, coordinated with pre-employment drug screening, and coordinate OSHA training in English and Spanish.
  • Maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping and report safety and workers’ compensation metrics to management.

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, written and spoken, sufficient to conduct employee relations meetings, investigations, disciplinary conversations, and training without an interpreter. Proficiency in both languages is assessed during the interview process.
  • At least 3 years in an HR Generalist, HR Manager, or comparable HR role with direct responsibility for employee relations. HR administrative or clerical experience alone does not meet this requirement.
  • A collaborative working style: builds strong working relationships with plant leadership, supervisors, employees, and the corporate HR and safety teams, and works effectively as part of a team.
  • Hands-on experience with an HRIS, including maintaining employee records and running reports (Workday strongly preferred).
  • Confident with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel (sorting, filtering, formulas, and basic reporting), Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience handling employee relations matters from start to finish, including workplace investigations, corrective action conversations, and the supporting documentation.
  • Working knowledge of federal employment law, including FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA, and Form I-9 requirements. Knowledge of Georgia employment law is a plus.
  • Hands-on safety experience in a manufacturing or production environment, including running Safety Committee meetings and conducting safety audits on the production floor.
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation claims from first report through return to work and closure, including incident investigation and root cause analysis presented to management.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HR experience in manufacturing, construction, or another production environment.
  • Experience with OSHA compliance and OSHA 300 recordkeeping.
  • OSHA 10- Hour must be completed within the first 90 days if not already held (training provided).
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
