About The Role
Join AutoZone as a Drafting & Design Specialist! Play a key role in Store Development, providing drafting and design expertise for prototype and remodel projects. Support the preparation and maintenance of prototype drawings, design standards, specifications, and construction documentation. Assist with project deliverables and architectural details while helping ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with company standards.
Primary Responsibilities after Real Estate Site Approval:
- Coordinate with the Merchandising team on fixture layouts to ensure corporate architectural prototype development standards are integrated and maintained.
- Assist the Architect Manager in developing and updating prototype drawings, ensuring code compliance with all municipal and governing agency authorities.
- Produce all architectural required drawings, maintaining architectural prototype standards, as well as assisting the Architect Manager with the management of the various consulting engineers (Structural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.) to ensure AutoZone standards are maintained prior to implementation.
- Coordinate with various consulting firms to ensure our electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and natural gas services reflect the new prototype design intent.
- Complete the architectural prototype drawing packages and ensure engineered construction drawings and bid documents are coordinated and accurate prior to being handed off to the Design Team and provided to the Construction department.
Primary Responsibilities after Construction Starts:
- Ensure any drawings or prototype standards which have been modified, as a result of issues encountered while under construction or company initiatives, are issued to the Construction team as a Revision and properly updated on the prototype sets.

Ensure all the latest prototype drawings and documents remain current, accurate, and consistent with AutoZone standards after the prototype set is completed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist the Architect Manager in supporting prototype development initiatives throughout the fiscal year.
Provide proper specifications and documentation to the Support team for any non-standard AFI or prototype items as required.
- Research building materials, products, and construction methods to evaluate performance, code compliance, and cost-effectiveness, and recommend alternative products when appropriate.
What We’re Looking For:
- Associates degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of AutoCAD experience.
- Completion of formal training program in Architectural Technology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and MS Project.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
- Effective time management skills.
- Must possess critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Strong focus on quality.
- Must be a positive, effective team player.
