A Brief Overview
The Mobility Specialist is a frontline mobility expert responsible for advancing safe patient mobility through direct patient support, real-time staff education, competency reinforcement, and safe patient handling expertise. The Mobility Specialist works alongside nursing, rehabilitation, and interdisciplinary teams to mobilize medically complex patients while promoting caregiver safety and increased patient mobility throughout the hospital. Ability to work directly with patients requiring physical assistance for mobility, transfers, repositioning, and ambulation. Working under established mobility protocols and interdisciplinary care plans, the Mobility Specialist provides direct hands-on support for patient mobilization, transfers, repositioning, ambulation, and equipment-assisted mobility activities. This role serves as a key resource for staff education, mobility equipment utilization, and safe patient handling practices to improve patient outcomes and reduce caregiver injury risk.

What you will do
Complex Patient Mobility
- Supports safe mobility for high-acuity, medically complex, bariatric, neurologic, orthopedic, trauma, intensive care, and post-surgical patients who require advanced mobility assistance.
- Advances patient mobility through appropriate support with bed mobility, repositioning, lateral transfers, chair transfers, ambulation, standing activities, and progressive mobility interventions.
- Contributes to the implementation of individualized mobility plans developed by nursing and rehabilitation providers.
- Promotes patient safety by recognizing mobility concerns, patient tolerance issues, and safety risks and communicating them to the appropriate clinical team members.
- Encourages patient participation and independence during mobility activities while maintaining safety and adherence to established protocols.
Safe Patient Handling & Mobility
- Serves as a reliable resource for safe patient handling and mobility practices across assigned areas.
- Reinforces safe and effective use of patient handling equipment, including ceiling lifts, floor lifts, sit-to-stand devices, transfer aids, repositioning systems, lateral transfer equipment, and other mobility and safe patient handling equipment as needed.
- Promotes caregiver and patient safety by supporting consistent adherence to established mobility standards and protocols.
- Supports early and progressive mobility through proactive rounding and identification of patients who may benefit from mobility intervention.
- Partners with clinical teams to implement safe, efficient mobility interventions using appropriate equipment and support resources.
Education & Coaching
- Provides ongoing bedside education, real-time coaching, and hands-on competency reinforcement to support safe mobility practices among nursing staff, rehabilitation staff, patient care assistants, and other clinical team members.
- Serves as a frontline resource for safe patient handling and mobility equipment use, promoting safe and effective equipment utilization by staff.
- Reinforces evidence-based mobility practices through daily rounding, observation, coaching, and direct support during patient care activities.
- Supports onboarding, annual competency validation, and department education initiatives related to patient mobility and safe patient handling.
- Identifies staff learning needs and recommends opportunities for additional education or training.
- Promotes a culture of mobility, caregiver safety, and patient independence throughout the organization.
- Models effective communication, teamwork, and patient-centered mobility practices.
Equipment Management
- Supports equipment readiness by helping ensure mobility and safe patient handling equipment is available, functioning properly, and used appropriately.
- Promotes safe equipment practices through routine inspection, appropriate escalation of concerns, and coordination with repair or replacement resources as needed.
- Contributes to effective equipment utilization through inventory awareness, utilization tracking, and communication of equipment needs.
- Supports implementation of new mobility technologies and equipment initiatives that improve patient mobility and caregiver safety.
Documentation & Program Support
- Maintains accurate documentation of mobility interventions, staff education activities, rounding, equipment utilization, and other required program metrics.
- Contributes mobility-related data to support quality, safety, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Supports department goals related to patient mobility, injury prevention, caregiver safety, and patient outcomes.
- Participates in quality improvement, injury prevention, and mobility program initiatives that strengthen safe patient handling practices.
Education Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent. Required

Licenses and Certifications
- BLS - Basic Life Support required .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $27.20 - $34.00 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
