Organization's Summary Statement:
The Job Counselor Advisor provides guidance, support, and resources to individuals seeking employment opportunities or career development. This role involves advising clients on job search strategies, career planning, resume writing, interview preparation, and skills development to help them achieve their career goals. The advisor also works closely with employers, community organizations, and educational institutions to connect clients with potential job opportunities.
Preferences:
3 - 5 years of experience providing counseling/advising services to a federal TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers program.
The Counselor Advisor will report directly to the Director of the Educational Opportunity Centers Program. The Counselor Advisor is responsible for advising/counseling and assisting with college admissions and financial aid.
The position will involve outreach and recruitment in the target community. The program will involve public relations and marketing to the target audience. Data entry and management will be required.
This position is located off-campus in Prince George's County. There will be meetings at the University of Maryland College Park campus as well as in the community.

Responsibilities:

(50%) The Counselor Advisor is responsible for recruiting program participants, advising and assisting them with college admissions and financial aid processes
(25%) The position will involve marketing, outreach and recruitment in the target community. The Counselor Advisor will assist with planning, producing and distributing PR and marketing materials to target audience.
(20%) The position will involve data entry and management. Ed Specialist will use data management software to document and report services provided to program participants.
(5%) Other Duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry parcels, packages, and other items, walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree for an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two years of experience in counseling or advising.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of career development, job market trends, and employment laws.
Skill in using job search platforms, social media tools, and career counseling software.
Ability to manage multiple client cases simultaneously.
