Job Description:
The Psychology Department at the University of Mount Saint Vincent invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2027. We seek a social psychologist whose teaching and research will complement and strengthen the department's existing programs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to supporting a diverse student population within an urban liberal arts college. The teaching load is 21 credits per academic year and will include coursework in introductory psychology, social psychology and other courses related to the candidate’s areas of expertise, and eventually the department’s senior capstone course. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to develop new courses that contribute to the department’s evolving curriculum.
The Psychology Department values faculty mentorship and the active involvement of undergraduates in research. Candidates should demonstrate the potential to maintain an active program of scholarship that is appropriate to the University’s teaching-focused mission and that creates meaningful opportunities for undergraduate participation.
Service responsibilities include academic advising for Psychology majors, participation in departmental programs and activities, and service on University governance committees.
Job Responsibilities:
Teaching Load: 21 credits per year, including:
- Introductory psychology and Social Psychology courses
- Courses in the candidate’s area of specialization
- Other foundational courses in the psychology major
- Opportunity to develop new courses for the curriculum
Research:
- Engage undergraduates in an active research program within the department
- Research support available through various University funding sources
- Demonstrate the potential to maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to the University’s teaching-focused mission and provide meaningful opportunities for undergraduate research participation
Service Responsibilities:
- Academic advising for students
- Participation in departmental and University activities
- Serving on University governance committees
Requirements
- Doctorate in Social Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution; candidates who are ABD will be considered
- Training and scholarly expertise in social psychology
- Evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Commitment to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds
- Potential to maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate students
- Commitment to departmental service and University governance
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of appointment. The University is unable to provide employment-visa sponsorship for this position.
