About The Role

Who we are
Bronte Construction builds heavy civil, marine, foundation and environmental infrastructure across Ontario: bridges, outfalls, slope stabilization, dam decommissioning, for municipal, provincial and federal owners.
What you'll own

  • Full-cycle hiring for salaried, office and technical roles and for seasonal and permanent positions
  • Performance cycles, which include goals and competencies, check-ins, annual reviews and improvement plans, coaching managers and keeping documentation consistent.
  • First point of contact for employees and managers on questions, attendance, conduct, leave, and documentation.
  • Keep each company's procedures up to date and clearly marked as current.
  • Applicant tracking, records and onboarding, with each employer's information kept separate, plus monthly reporting on hiring and performance-cycle progress.
  • WSIB claim paperwork, return-to-work and modified-work offers, training records and Joint Health and Safety Committee meeting administration. Safety and operations leaders handle technical safety decisions.
  • Coach managers and supervisors at both companies on hiring and performance conversations, and share your know-how with our HR Coordinator.

Where this sits
This is a senior individual-contributor role reporting to the Director of Human Resources, working alongside our HR Coordinator.
Where you'll work
In person, based at our head office, 5510 Mainway, Burlington, Ontario, with regular on-site work at our sister company in Oakville.
What you need

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive generalist HR experience, including recruiting for both professional and front-line roles, and employee relations.

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources, business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting more than one site, business or leader, and the judgment to know when to escalate.
  • Comfort being the HR person people can walk up to, in an office, a yard or a trailer.

What helps but isn't required

  • CHRP in progress or an equivalent designation counts.
  • Experience in construction, trades, distribution, retail yards or a seasonal workforce.
  • BambooHR experience or other HRIS Systems.
