About The Role

Lloyd’s is the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace, bringing together the world’s leading risk takers to advance global progress.
Our strategy is focused on delivering strong underwriting performance, operating an efficient and flexible marketplace, and maximising the capital advantage of the Lloyd’s market — while continuing to build a Lloyd’s we are proud of.
How we deliver this, matters. We take the risk, make things happen, and own the outcome — working together across our global network to turn insight into impact.
Direct Tax Manager
London
Lloyd’s is the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace. We bring together leading risk takers to share risk, solve complex problems and advance global progress.
We’re looking for a Direct Tax Manager to lead critical tax compliance, reporting and governance activity across the Corporation of Lloyd’s, its UK subsidiaries and our international network.
This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with commercial influence. You’ll help us manage risk, support important business decisions and maintain trusted relationships across Lloyd’s and beyond.
What you’ll do
You’ll take ownership of our direct tax obligations and help shape how we manage tax risk across a complex global organisation.
You’ll:

  • Lead the accurate and timely delivery of UK corporation tax returns, payments and associated compliance obligations.
  • Manage wider group and global requirements, including Pillar Two, Country-by-Country Reporting and Corporate Interest Restriction.
  • Lead group tax reporting, including tax provisions and supporting disclosures.
  • Maintain effective governance and controls across our direct tax processes.
  • Identify, document and escalate tax risks, issues and control weaknesses.
  • Provide clear, commercially focused tax advice on projects, transactions and legislative developments.
  • Oversee direct tax compliance and governance across our international network.
  • Build productive relationships with HMRC, external advisers and stakeholders across Lloyd’s.
  • Lead, coach and develop two colleagues within the Direct Tax team.

You’ll join a Tax function of around 40 colleagues and a Direct Tax team of five. The role has two direct reports.
What you’ll bring
You’ll have significant experience managing UK corporation tax compliance and reporting within a complex organisation or group.
You’ll also bring:

  • Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax compliance and reporting.
  • A broad understanding of relevant international direct tax matters.
  • Experience reviewing work and coordinating external advisers.
  • Confidence working with tax authorities and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience providing technical tax input on business projects, transactions or advisory matters.
  • A practical understanding of tax governance, risk and controls.
  • The ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to both tax and non-tax audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound judgement when navigating complexity or ambiguity.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities without losing accuracy or attention to detail.
  • An inclusive leadership style, with experience delegating, coaching and helping others develop.

Experience of international tax compliance, including Pillar Two or Country-by-Country Reporting, would be valuable, but it isn’t essential. Knowledge of the insurance industry or the Lloyd’s market is also helpful, although you can develop this with us.
You’ll hold an ACA, CTA or similar professional qualification, such as ACCA or CIMA. We’ll also consider candidates with relevant experience who are willing to work towards an appropriate tax qualification.
Why join Lloyd’s?
Our strategy is focused on strong underwriting performance, an efficient and flexible marketplace, and maximising the capital advantage of the Lloyd’s market. And we’re continuing to build a Lloyd’s we’re proud of.
How we achieve that matters. We take the risk, make things happen and own the outcome. You’ll have the opportunity to use your expertise, challenge established thinking and turn insight into impact.
Being inclusive is integral to how we work. We want to build an environment that reflects the global markets we serve, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and supported to reach their full potential.
We’re open and positive about workplace adjustments. If there’s anything you need during the recruitment process, please let us know.
Make the market better. It starts with you.
Being inclusive at Lloyd’s is integral to how we work — and how we deliver impact.
We aim to build a diverse, inclusive environment that reflects the global markets we serve, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and supported to reach their full potential.
We take the risk by challenging traditional thinking and being proactive about inclusion. That means being open and positive about workplace adjustments, prioritising health and wellbeing, and investing in diversity and inclusion training so everyone feels able to contribute and succeed.
We make things happen by turning our commitment into action. Through employee networks, mentoring, volunteering opportunities and sustained investment in professional development, we create an environment where inclusion is experienced day‑to‑day — not just talked about.
We own the outcome by focusing on impact. By bringing together diverse perspectives and the best minds in the industry, we work collaboratively with underwriters and brokers to create innovative, responsive solutions that share risk and solve complex problems across global markets.
