About The Role
A Polysomnographic Technician, also known as a Sleep Technician, works under the general supervision of the Sleep Medical Director, the Sleep Center Manager, a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, or designee to perform comprehensive sleep testing, analysis, and associated interventions.
Clinical/Patient Care-65%
- Performs pediatric polysomnographic procedures and therapeutic interventions such as Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) and oxygen titrations
- Applies surface electrodes to the patient according to established protocols and accepted published standards.
- Reviews the patient’s medical history and verifies the medical order via EMR.
- Determines testing parameters/procedures based on physician’s orders and laboratory protocols
- Monitors the recording, routinely documenting observations, changes in procedure, and significant events to facilitate scoring. Performs “Lights out” and “Lights on” procedures.
Patient Education/Clinical Support-20%
- Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
- Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient- specific needs
Equipment/Environment Management-10%
- Maintains, prepares, and calibrates all the equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
- Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals. Makes and documents adjustments if necessary.
Other Duties as Assigned-5%
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Education: High School Diploma.
License and/or Certifications Required:
- Must obtain Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), Certified Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS) credential within 3 years of the date of hire.
- CPR or BLS Healthcare certification within 1 month of hire and maintained thereafter.
Education and/or Experience Preferred:
- Education: 2 years college
- Experience: Successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state-licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility OR 6 months of experience working in a sleep facility performing sleep disorders testing.
Pediatric sleep lab experience preferred.
License and/or Certifications Preferred:
- RRT/CRT.

- Assist the medical director and/or manager in some aspects of sleep center operations.
