Job Description:
The Georgia Department of Education is hiring a Food Service Worker for the Georgia School for the Deaf located in Cave Spring, Georgia. This position is responsible for the preparation, cooking, serving, and distribution of meals to students, staff, and visitors. The Food Service Worker operates and maintains specialized food service equipment, performs general facility and equipment sanitation in accordance with federal, state, and departmental guidelines, and serves as a lead worker to support daily food service operations.
Job Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, serve, and distribute meals and food items in accordance with established menus and nutritional guidelines.
• Operate, clean, and maintain specialized food service equipment safely and effectively.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of kitchen facilities, dining areas, equipment, and food preparation areas.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation standards.
• Assist with inventory control, food storage, and receiving deliveries.
• Provide guidance and support to assigned food service staff and serve as a lead worker during daily operations.
• Maintain accurate records related to food production, sanitation, and inventory as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL).
• Previous experience working in a school, residential, or educational setting.
• Experience in institutional, commercial, or large-scale food service operations.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in the area of assignment; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Food Svc Worker 2 (FFS011) or position equivalent.--Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
