Job Summary
The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), one of Canada’s leading defined benefit pension plans, provides dedicated retirement security for Ontario’s healthcare community. As at December 31, 2025, HOOPP reported $131.9 billion in net assets. With offices in Toronto and London, HOOPP manages a global, diversified multi-asset portfolio.
HOOPP's Rotational Program offers new graduates the opportunity to complete rotations over 12 months, with the opportunity to be placed in a permanent role after completion. Participants will develop a strong understanding of how each department contributes to the success of the Fund and how we deliver on our pension promise.
Upon successfully completing the New Graduate Rotational Program, participants will have:

  • Developed knowledge of the asset class they will be supporting while working with experienced investment professionals.
  • Gained hands on experience by learning different investment strategies and thought processes needed for investing.
  • Received formal training on how to analyze and manage the diligence process for several specific investment opportunities, possibly including related industry analysis.
  • Collaborated with leaders who have diverse experiences in a professional environment.

The opportunity
During the 12 month program, participants will complete rotations across different teams within Capital Markets. Potential rotation teams include:

  • Public Equities
  • Interest Rates
  • Discretionary Derivatives and Alternative Investments
  • Liquid & Macro Credit
  • Structured & Private Credit
  • Cross-Asset Thematic Investing
  • Balance Sheet and Liquidity Management

What you will do

  • Research and analyze assigned industries, structures and companies.
  • Review and evaluate academic and industry research.
  • Prepare dynamic and user friendly financial analysis and complex models to support investment decisions.
  • Build, develop, analyze and maintain financial models and associated documentation.
  • Learn and use third party applications to provide financial analysis on investments.
  • Prepare and write investment recommendations outlining key elements of the investment thesis, along with the relevant merits and risks.
  • Actively participate in the development, review and discussion of investment and divestment opportunities.
  • Contribute to multi asset and derivative based trading and research.
  • Support teams by assisting in due diligence activities aligned with strategic and return objectives, analyzing structuring alternatives, assessing implications and managing external relationships.
  • Monitor the financial performance of existing investments, including direct assets and funds.
  • Conduct analysis to inform sell, hold and follow on investment decisions to optimize the portfolio.
  • Support and collaborate with the broader team in monitoring portfolio performance, data and risk metrics.
  • Contribute to the strategy and execution plans for the assigned investment and asset portfolios.
  • Assist in implementing and integrating new technologies as required.
  • Support the team and take on other duties as they arise, ensuring smooth operations and strategic alignment.

What you bring

  • In the process of completing, or recently completed, a university degree in Arts, Mathematics, Computer Science, Sciences, Engineering or Finance, with a strong interest in investment management.
  • Highly motivated, adaptable and flexible, thriving in a fast paced and exciting work environment.
  • Exhibits high energy, enthusiasm and a strong work ethic that aligns with HOOPP's company values.
  • Demonstrates a passion for investment decision making and a curiosity about applying research and technology within market contexts.
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, including demonstrated financial modelling capabilities.
  • Creative problem solving abilities with a knack for proposing innovative solutions and varied perspectives.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce effective research reports that interpret and synthesize diverse research, complex data sets and large volumes of information.
  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, with computer programming skills considered a significant asset.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to contribute positively to the culture of the group and the broader HOOPP organization.
  • Progress towards finance or accounting professional designations, such as CFA or CPA, while not required, would be considered an asset.
  • Technical programming skills in Python or an understanding of functional and object oriented coding would be considered an asset.
