The Warehouse Technician is a critical link between suppliers, warehouse operations, production, quality, and the customer. The position is responsible for ensuring the right material is available, in the right quantity, in the right condition, at the right location, and at the right time to support production requirements.
The successful candidate will demonstrate ownership of the warehouse environment, maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping, protect inventory accuracy, identify problems before they disrupt production, and actively contribute to continuous improvement.
This position is expected to operate with a “production-ready” mindset: anticipate needs, identify risks, communicate issues early, and take action to prevent material shortages, errors, damage, delays, and unnecessary downtime.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Material Receiving & Inventory Control

  • Receive, unload, inspect, identify, and verify incoming materials, components, supplies, and equipment against applicable documentation.
  • Confirm quantities, part numbers, descriptions, condition, and other required information before material is placed into inventory.
  • Identify and immediately communicate damaged, incorrect, short, excess, or questionable material.
  • Accurately process material transactions in applicable inventory/status systems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory locations and ensure materials are stored in their designated locations.
  • Perform routine cycle counts and participate in physical inventory activities.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and assist in identifying root causes rather than simply correcting system quantities.
  • Protect inventory from damage, contamination, deterioration, loss, or unauthorized use.
  • Maintain appropriate material identification, labeling, lot/part traceability, and organization standards.

Production & Line-Side Material Support

  • Pick, stage, sequence, and deliver materials to production in accordance with production schedules and established material-flow requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate line-side inventory levels to support uninterrupted production without creating unnecessary excess inventory or congestion.
  • Monitor production requirements and proactively identify potential material shortages before they affect production.
  • Coordinate with production personnel and leadership regarding material priorities, shortages, substitutions, discrepancies, and changing requirements.
  • Support efficient material flow throughout the facility.
  • Ensure materials delivered to production are the correct part, correct quantity, correct condition, and correct destination.
  • Retrieve and return unused, excess, or obsolete material in accordance with established processes.
  • Support production changeovers, special projects, customer requirements, and other operational priorities as assigned.

Shipping & Logistics

  • Support outbound shipping activities, including material preparation, packaging, labeling, staging, loading, and documentation.
  • Verify shipments for accuracy before release.
  • Properly secure and protect materials during movement and shipment.
  • Maintain organized shipping and receiving areas.
  • Communicate shipment discrepancies, delays, damage, or other concerns promptly.

Safety & Risk Prevention

  • Demonstrate personal ownership for safety and actively contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material-handling equipment safely and in accordance with training and established procedures.
  • Complete required inspections of material-handling equipment before use and report unsafe conditions or equipment defects immediately.
  • Follow applicable OSHA requirements, Fontaine safety policies, procedures, JSAs/JHAs, and established safe-work practices.
  • Maintain clear aisles, emergency access, exits, fire equipment access, and designated pedestrian/forklift travel paths.
  • Properly store materials to prevent falling-object, struck-by, ergonomic, fire, chemical, and other workplace hazards.
  • Stop and escalate work when an unsafe condition presents an immediate risk to people, equipment, product, or the facility.
  • Participate in safety observations, Good Catch/Near Miss reporting, corrective actions, and other proactive safety initiatives.
  • Promote a safety culture in which employees are expected to identify hazards and address them before an incident occurs.

Quality & Product Protection

  • Treat material accuracy as a quality responsibility and recognize that incorrect or damaged material can directly affect the finished truck and customer.
  • Follow established inspection, identification, storage, handling, and traceability requirements.
  • Prevent material damage through proper handling, storage, transportation, and stacking practices.
  • Immediately communicate quality concerns, incorrect parts, damaged material, or potential nonconformances.
  • Support containment and corrective-action activities when material or inventory issues are identified.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and system transactions to support product and material traceability.

5S, Lean & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain warehouse areas according to established 5S standards: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.
  • Identify opportunities to improve material flow, storage utilization, inventory accuracy, ergonomics, safety, productivity, and workplace organization.
  • Participate in continuous-improvement activities and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Support visual management practices, standardized work, and established warehouse procedures.
  • Identify recurring problems and bring forward improvement opportunities rather than accepting inefficient processes as “the way we have always done it.”
  • Participate in Kaizen, 5S audits, safety activities, process reviews, and other improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain an organized warehouse that allows employees to quickly identify what is needed, where it belongs, and whether it is available.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Maintain timely, professional, and accurate communication with warehouse personnel, production employees, supervisors, managers, suppliers, carriers, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate material shortages, inventory discrepancies, shipment issues, damaged material, safety concerns, and other operational risks promptly.
  • Listen effectively and actively seek feedback without becoming defensive.
  • Build productive relationships across departments and contribute to a culture of teamwork and accountability.
  • Provide clear information during shift changes and handoffs to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility when production priorities or customer requirements change.
  • Support coworkers and other departments when operational needs require additional assistance.
