The Director of Research oversees the organization and execution of the assigned research program, planning and priority setting, use of facilities and personnel for research, pursuit of external funding for the research program, and presentation of the program’s efforts to the greater patient, clinician and research communities. This role publishes in peer-reviewed journals and presents national/international, regional, and local seminars. The Director of Research collaborates with all other levels of center staff and physicians contributing to the Shepherd mission and hospital-wide strategic initiatives as a key decision maker, collaborator, and innovator while being a positive role model. The Director of Research takes an active role in research occurring at Shepherd Center. This role also serves as mentor to other staff to help others achieve their research goals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Research leads and coordinates program research. Establishing and maintaining a clinical research setting; the Director of Research is expected to perform all necessary clinical, administrative, and management tasks associated with maintaining an effective research program within a clinical setting.

Design, develop, and submit grant applications to public and private funding sources.

Initiate and direct research projects related to program.

Provide training and support to clinical staff of the program to pursue their research interests.

Serve as lead and/or co-investigator on clinical trials.

Participate in research dissemination activities, including submission of a minimum of two manuscripts to refereed journals and making a minimum of two presentations at professional or scientific conferences per year.

Establish and maintain professional contacts with funding agencies and other academic and research institutions.

Ensure that all requirements for progress and financial reporting to funding agencies are met.

Provide consultation on research studies, as requested.

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION

At least 5 years’ experience leading extramurally funded research project
