About The Role

This position typically reports to an Assistant or Associate Director, Director, or other appropriate administrator in an academic or IT unit. This high level non-exempt position provides a combination of behind the scenes expertise in coordinating, monitoring, scheduling, testing and troubleshooting network servers as well as providing direct customer service in coordinating and determining video and audio requirements for events. This position manages processes, such as video conferencing gatekeeper, end point hardware, bridge and points on bridge, video editing and video streams, CD/DVD duplicators, and software for web graphics. This position is not primarily a content developer. This position does not require knowledge of theories and principles of instructional systems design, instructional technology, and communication content that is necessary for the higher level exempt job, Instructional/Multimedia Developer. This position can be distinguished from the lower level Media Resources Specialist in that while this position is responsible for video streaming and teleconferencing processes and network systems, the Media Resources Specialist is primarily responsible for videotaping events and providing needed equipment and setups at functions to utilize the teleconferencing/long distance capabilities.

Evaluates and implements new technologies to advance on-line educational services, to include software, hardware, network tools and peripheral equipment.

  • Provides high-level technical support, troubleshooting techniques, and demonstrations for faculty and staff regarding hardware, software, network systems, and web-related difficulties.
  • Integrates multimedia, audio, and video into Internet courses and instructional presentations by using cutting edge audio/video streaming technologies.
  • Responds to classroom helpline, providing real-time assistance to faculty teaching in media enhanced classrooms.
  • Works closely with departmental staff in developing and implementing protocol and procedures specific to media equipment/operations.
  • Operates video based network systems, including routing/switching equipment. Responds to troubleshooting calls from Distance Learning Network helpline.
  • Administers and implements teleconferencing servers, bridges and end point hardware; manages teleconferenced events, classes and meetings for assigned area.
  • Creates and organizes streaming media for faculty and staff. Converts videos to streaming media.
  • Manages department’s web pages; edits videos for use on web pages.
  • Designs and produces interactive CD’s for program; builds dynamic database- backed web applications using server technologies.
  • May schedule external customer’s transponder broadcast times with State Satellite Operations Center. Maintains calendar of satellite/video streaming activity.
  • Oversees streaming servers and encoding workstations; installs security patches; manages user accounts.

This position requires a high school diploma.
