Lead Transmission Engineer
Ejov · MELBOURNE, VIC, Australia
About The Role
Our world demands low carbon energy solutions to achieve a Net Zero future.
And as we transition from traditional energy sources to renewable alternatives, you can play a key role in enabling and accelerating this change.
We’ll support you every step of the way as you join us in finding sustainable energy solutions to make a positive impact that will last for generations.
Who are we looking for?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Transmission Lines Engineer to join our Victoria & Tasmania region and play a key role in our Energy market. We are seeking an experienced transmission industry leader who combines technical excellence with strong client relationships, commercial awareness and a demonstrated ability to help grow a business. This is not solely a technical delivery role. Success will depend on being visible in the market, maintaining purposeful contact with clients, understanding their investment priorities and converting those relationships into opportunities for GHD.
The ideal candidate will have an established network across transmission utilities, renewable energy developers, network service providers, government agencies and major delivery partners. They will take the initiative to stay connected with clients, identify emerging opportunities, support pursuits and position GHD as a trusted adviser in the energy transition. You will be equally comfortable discussing transmission line design, constructability and delivery as you are building relationships with senior client stakeholders, identifying future opportunities and helping shape winning strategies.
The role will ideally be based in our Melbourne or Hobart offices, but we are open to discussions around being based in other GHD offices across the two states.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Identifying opportunities early, supporting pursuits and helping grow GHD's transmission business through strong client engagement and market presence.
- Establishing and strengthening trusted client relationships whilst playing a leading role in winning work.
- Bringing together the right capabilities from across GHD to develop client-focused solutions and position GHD for future programs of work.
- Helping shape and grow GHD's transmission business across Victoria and Tasmania through strategic client engagement and market insight.
- Leading the planning, design and delivery of overhead transmission line projects (up to 500kV), providing technical oversight across relevant engineering disciplines.
- Demonstrating a strong understanding of transmission line standards and construction practices.
- Acting as Project Director, Owner's Engineer or Design Manager on major transmission and energy infrastructure projects.
- Managing risk, quality and compliance across all phases of transmission projects.
- Providing technical leadership, mentorship and development support to junior engineers.
- Driving innovation and implementing strategies for continuous improvement
What you will bring to the team:
- Demonstrated client engagement, work winning and trusted-adviser capability
- Strong transmission-sector experience, utility credibility and established industry networks
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, structural or transmission-related engineering discipline preferred, coupled with at least 12 years of experience, ideally in an engineering consultancy or utility environment
- RPEVor equivalent professional registration, or the ability to obtain RPEV
- Hands-on leadership of multidisciplinary transmission delivery, including detailed design interfaces
- Capability to perform Project Director, Owner’s Engineer and/or Design Manager roles
- Renewables, substation, network augmentation and/or BESS experience is advantageous
