About The Role
Shell is seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineer to support the maturation, development, execution and operation of offshore gas developments in Venezuela, including existing and future projects across the Plataforma Deltana and cross-border developments with Trinidad and Tobago.
The role provides reservoir engineering leadership across exploration, appraisal, development planning, reserves management, production forecasting, uncertainty assessment and field development optimization. The Reservoir Engineer will work closely with subsurface, wells, facilities, commercial and regulatory teams to support strategic decision-making and maximize value from Shell's offshore gas portfolio.
The position requires a strong understanding of gas reservoir behavior, development planning, integrated asset modeling and reserves governance, coupled with the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Accountabilities
Reservoir Management and Field Development
- Develop and maintain reservoir management plans for offshore gas assets
- Generate production forecasts, reserves estimates and recovery assessments
- Support maturation of field development plans from concept selection through execution and operations
- Perform reservoir performance analyses and identify opportunities to enhance field value.
- Integrate geological, geophysical, petrophysical and production data into subsurface evaluations
- Provide technical recommendations on drainage strategies, well placement and development timing
Reserves and Resource Management
- Prepare reserves and resource estimates in compliance with Shell standards and applicable reporting requirements
- Support annual reserves assurance and internal review processes
- Maintain auditable documentation supporting reserves bookings and revisions
- Develop uncertainty ranges and probabilistic evaluations for key asset decisions
Simulation and Subsurface Modeling
- Build, maintain and apply reservoir simulation models
- Conduct sensitivity analysis to evaluate development alternatives and project risks
- Support integrated subsurface studies including material balance, decline curve analysis, pressure transient analysis and production surveillance
- Collaborate with geoscientists to update static and dynamic reservoir models
Project Development Support
- Contribute to concept selection, FEED and project execution activities
- Provide reservoir engineering input to offshore facilities design and production system optimization
- Support preparation of technical input for government submissions, development plans and partner discussions
- Evaluate development scenarios considering technical, economic and commercial drivers
Integrated Asset Management
- Work with facilities, wells, operations and commercial teams to develop integrated production forecasts
- Support development of Integrated Asset Models (IAM)
- Assess production constraints and identify debottlenecking opportunities
- Monitor field performance and recommend corrective actions where required
Commercial and Economic Support
- Support project economics evaluations and investment decisions.
- Provide technical input to gas sales agreements, unitization discussions and cross-border development studies as required
- Contribute to uncertainty assessments and value optimization exercises
Stakeholder Engagement
- Interface with internal Shell technical networks and global subject matter experts
- Support engagement with joint venture partners, regulatory authorities and external consultants
- Contribute to multidisciplinary workshops and technical assurance reviews
Digital and Data Management
- Maintain high-quality subsurface databases and technical records
- Apply modern digital tools to reservoir analysis and performance management
- Ensure technical work products remain traceable, auditable and aligned with company standards
What you bring
- Must have legal authorization to work in Venezuela. on a full-time basis for any employer other than their current employer
- Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or related Engineering discipline
- 8+ years of reservoir engineering experience in the oil and gas industry
- Demonstrated experience working on gas reservoirs and offshore developments
- Experience supporting field development planning, reserves management and production forecasting
- Experience with multidisciplinary asset teams and integrated development projects.
- Experience in Venezuela offshore gas projects
- Fluent in Spanish and English, both written and spoken
