Mō te tūnga | About the role
As our Research Development Officer, you’ll bring Yoobee’s research strategy to life through practical support, visible leadership and consistent follow-through.
Reporting to the Head of Quality, Risk and Academic Governance, with a dotted line to the Head of Programme Development, you’ll work across faculties to help kaimahi (staff) develop research ideas into rigorous projects and completed outputs. You’ll also be a member of our Research and Ethics Committee, contributing to ethical practice and effective research governance.
This is a hands-on role combining researcher development, postgraduate supervision coordination, project oversight and research quality. You’ll build trusting relationships while being comfortable providing constructive feedback, addressing barriers and holding people to agreed commitments.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coaching and mentoring researchers through proposal development, methodology, ethics, analysis, writing and dissemination.
  • Coordinating research and thesis supervision, matching projects and postgraduate research candidates with suitable supervisory expertise and capacity.
  • Monitoring research milestones, identifying risks early and helping researchers keep projects moving through to completion.
  • Providing practical guidance on research ethics, integrity, approvals, data management and governance requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate research registers, supervision records and the Research Management Output System (ROMS), with clear reporting to leadership and governance groups.
  • Building research capability and collaboration through workshops, peer learning, seminars, symposiums and communities of practice.
  • Connecting researchers with publication, funding, conference and partnership opportunities, and raising the visibility of their work.

Success will mean a growing, connected research community, stronger research outputs and clear processes that support quality, accountability and completion.
Ko wai koe | About you

-
Experience undertaking, supervising, developing or supporting research within the New Zealand tertiary sector or a comparable research environment.
-
Experience supervising or coordinating postgraduate research, theses, dissertations or applied research projects through to completion.

The ability to coach researchers at different experience levels and translate complex requirements into clear, practical guidance.
-
Strong organisation and project management skills, with the ability to maintain progress across competing priorities.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to influence across disciplines and follow through on agreed actions.
A doctoral qualification or equivalent depth of research experience would be advantageous, as would experience contributing to a research ethics committee or similar governance body.
