Anesthesia Technician II, Anesthesiology - Full-Time, Rotating Shift

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Anesthesia Technician III in our Anesthesiology department. In this role, you will provide advanced technical support to anesthesia providers and Operating Room team members during routine and complex procedures.
This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
As an Anesthesia Technician III, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia machines, monitors, advanced airway devices, and ancillary equipment. You will support anesthesia delivery before, during, and after procedures across multiple anesthetizing locations.
The Anesthesia Technician III also serves as a technical resource for other anesthesia technicians and supports compliance with equipment-safety, infection-prevention, and departmental standards.
Essential Job Functions

• Sets up, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots anesthesia machines, monitors, advanced airway equipment, and ancillary devices for routine and complex procedures.
• Assists anesthesia providers with patient transport, positioning, insertion of intravenous and invasive lines, acquisition of medications and supplies, and routine or difficult intubations and extubations.
• Prepares equipment and supplies used for arterial lines, central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, airway emergencies, rapid infusions, and other advanced anesthesia procedures.
• Provides anesthesia support throughout the General Operating Rooms, DCAM Operating Rooms, Comer Children’s Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery suites, trauma areas, radiology, PACU, ICU, Cath Lab, MRI, emergency department, and other procedural locations.
• Performs equipment checks and coordinates repairs, preventive maintenance, and replacement of anesthesia equipment.
• Maintains anesthesia workstations and assists with operating-room turnover and complex case preparation.
• Orders, receives, organizes, and distributes anesthesia equipment and supplies. Monitors par levels, product availability, and expiration dates.
• Applies and reinforces appropriate aseptic techniques for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and storing reusable anesthesia equipment and supplies.
• Serves as a technical resource and assists with the orientation and training of Anesthesia Technician I and II team members.
• Communicates equipment, supply, and operational concerns to anesthesia providers and department leadership.
• May perform Point of Care Testing as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of experience as an anesthesia technician or relevant operating-room experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in setting up and troubleshooting anesthesia machines, monitors, airway devices, and related equipment.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification upon hire or within the first month of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of certification examination requirements established by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
• Experience supporting complex anesthesia cases in a large academic medical center or Level I trauma environment.
• Previous experience training or mentoring anesthesia technicians.
