PositionOverview:Teachhistologyandpathologytopreclinicalmedicalstudentsaspartofthe TRAILS curriculum and provide didactic instruction to pathology residents in areas of expertise.
Primaryresponsibilities:
MedicalStudentEducation

Providepathologyandhistologyinstructiontomedicalstudentsinamannerconsistentwiththe requirements of the TRAILS curriculum.

Teachfundamentalconceptsingrossandmicroscopicpathology,mechanismsofdisease,and clinicopathologic correlation.
-
Facilitatecase-basedandactive-learningexperiencesthatintegratepathologywithclinical medicine.
-
Serveasamentorandeducationalresourceformedicalstudentsinterestedinpathology.
-
Participateinstudentassessment,includingdevelopingthedailyquiz,weeklycheckpoint,and other exam questions as required by the particular course.

Participateingradingandevaluationofstudentperformance,asappropriate.

WorkincollaborationwithAcademicAffairsandtheDepartmentofMedicalEducationas needed.
PathologyResidencyEducation
-
TeachAP/CPpathologyresidentsusingdidacticsessions,caseconferences,unknown conferences, and other educational activities.

Teachresidentstodevelopappropriatediagnosticreasoning,morphologicinterpretation, differential diagnoses, and clinicopathologic correlation.

SupportresidentpreparationforAP/CPboardexaminations.
-
Serveasanapproachablefacultymentorandrolemodelforresidents.
FacultyandAcademicResponsibilities

Participateindepartmentalandeducationalprogramactivities.

Participateineducationalquality-improvementinitiativesandreviewoflearnerfeedback.

Remaincurrentinrelevantdevelopmentsinpathology,medicaleducation,anddiagnostic practice.

Participateinfacultydevelopmentactivitiesasappropriate.

Contributetoscholarlyactivityoreducationalprojects.
Required Qualifications

MDorequivalentmedicaldegree.
-
BoardcertificationinAnatomicandClinicalPathology.

Demonstratedinterestinandcommitmenttomedicaleducation.

Strongcommunicationandinterpersonalskills.

Abilitytoworkeffectivelywithmedicalstudents,residents,faculty,andclinicalcolleagues.
Preferred:
-
On-goingactiveregularpathologypracticewithintegratedclinicalteachingofresidentsand medical students.

Previousexperienceteachingmedicalstudentsand/orpathologyresidents.
-
Interestinmentoringresidentsandmedicalstudentspursuingcareersinpathology.
TimeCommitmentandSchedule
Thisisa20%effortpart-timefacultyposition,withthespecificscheduledeterminedcollaboratively based on departmental needs and the candidate’s availability.
Teachingtypicallyincludesregularlyschedulededucationalsessions.Flexibilityinschedulingispossible within limits, and the department is interested in developing a role that provides meaningful educational involvement while accommodating the candidate’s professional commitments.
