JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Clinical Dental Assistant provides chairside assistance, clinical and laboratory support, patient care coordination, and facilities maintenance for the Tri-Clinic dental programs, including the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), Faculty Practice (UDP), and Special Care/VA clinics. The primary assignment will be within the AEGD clinic. This position rotates and provides clinical support throughout all Tri-Clinic areas based on operational needs. Responsibilities include chair-side assisting, nitrous oxide monitoring, infection control, inventory management, patient care support, and assisting with administrative and clinical functions to ensure efficient clinic operations.

• Provides chairside assistance to faculty, residents, and dental hygienists in AEGD, UDP, and Special Care/VA clinics.
• Prepares treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment for patient care; monitors and maintains patient safety during nitrous oxide administration.
• Assists during dental procedures, including suctioning, retraction, mixing materials, taking impressions, provisional restorations, and clinical photography.
• Performs preventive equipment maintenance and routine maintenance.
• Ensures working area, instruments, and equipment meet OSHA sterilization regulations.
• Provides post-treatment instructions and oral health education to patients.
• Provides chairside and operational support to faculty, residents, students, and staff throughout the Tri-Clinic model.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience working in a dental office or dental laboratory. Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED). (Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) with the Dental Assistant National Board Certification (DANB) is preferred. Graduate of CODA accredited school preferred.)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee, with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring, is required. CDA (DANB) certification preferred. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
