About The Role
The Manager, Content Developer leads a team of editors responsible for supporting the development, production, quality control, and publication of assessment exams in the United States. This role provides day-to-day people leadership, workload planning, process oversight, and cross-functional coordination to ensure assessment materials are accurate, secure, standards-aligned, and delivered on schedule. The manager collaborates with content development, psychometrics, assessment services, publishing, technology, and client-facing teams to resolve issues, improve workflows, and maintain high standards for editorial quality, production accuracy, and operational excellence.
You will be expected to manage a workstream of overlapping projects and to complete tasks accurately and on time. We will help you achieve your goals by equipping you with training, resources, and a team approach to work prioritization and problem-solving. You will adhere to a traditional daily schedule but will also enjoy flexibility with core hours.
This role aligns to industry level title such as Editorial Services Manager.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES:

Manage, coach, and develop a team of editors including work assignments, performance feedback, onboarding, training, and professional development.

Oversee editorial and production workflows for teacher assessment exams, study guides, practice materials, item banks, and related deliverables.

Plan team capacity, prioritize competing deliverables, and monitor schedules to ensure accurate, timely completion of work across multiple programs and projects.

Ensure editorial and production work follows applicable client requirements, style guides, accessibility expectations, quality standards, and security protocols.

Partner with content developers, assessment specialists, psychometricians, project managers, publishing teams, and client-facing groups to clarify requirements and resolve questions or blockers.

Review project status, identify risks, escalate issues when appropriate, and implement mitigation plans to protect schedules and deliverable quality.

Support quality control activities, including proofreading, copyediting, metadata review, item accounting checks, formatting validation, and final production review.

Maintain and improve documented procedures, templates, tracking tools, and job logs to support consistency, efficiency, and knowledge transfer.

Analyze workflow data, recurring defects, and feedback to recommend process improvements and strengthen team performance.

Promote a collaborative, inclusive team culture focused on accuracy, accountability, continuous improvement, and service to educators and learners.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in English, education, publishing, communications, assessment, instructional content, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

Five or more years of experience in editorial, assessment, publishing, production, educational content, or related environment.

Three or more years of experience leading, supervising, mentoring, or coordinating the work of editors, technicians, production staff, or cross-functional project teams.

Experience managing multiple complex deliverables with competing timelines and quality requirements.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply style guides, client requirements, process documentation, and quality standards.

Experience with high-stakes assessment, educator licensure, certification exams, educational publishing, or item banking systems preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and collaboration tools; experience with databases, content management systems, or proprietary publishing platforms preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear direction, document decisions, and communicate risks or recommendations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of editorial standards, copyediting practices, proofreading conventions, production workflows, and quality control methods.

Knowledge of assessment development principles, teacher licensure or certification contexts, item banking, test production, and secure exam handling preferred.

Skill in leading teams, assigning work, balancing capacity, monitoring progress, and keeping projects on schedule.

Skill in analyzing work processes, identifying root causes of errors or delays, and implementing practical improvements.

Skill in communicating clearly with technical, editorial, content, and business stakeholders.

Ability to make sound decisions under deadline pressure while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality.

Ability to coach staff through complex editorial or production questions and support consistent application of procedures.

Ability to navigate ambiguity, adjust priorities, and support change in a collaborative and professional manner.

Ability to use data, documentation, and team feedback to strengthen quality, efficiency, and accountability.
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York State, New York City, Vermont, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $80,000 - $95,000.
