Systems Engineering Intern

We are seeking a motivated Intern to join our engineering team and contribute to the development, testing, and improvement of innovative water heating systems. This role provides hands-on experience working across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and product engineering disciplines.
The intern will support systems engineers in defining product requirements, analyzing system performance, troubleshooting issues, developing technical documentation, and coordinating engineering activities across the product development lifecycle.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering student interested in learning how complex residential and commercial water heating products are designed, integrated, tested, and brought to market.
This role will support Rheem North America, located in Montgomery, AL.

• Support systems engineers in defining and maintaining system-level product requirements and specifications.
• Analyze interactions between mechanical, electrical, thermal, controls, and software subsystems.
• Support product testing, data collection, and analysis to evaluate system performance and reliability.
• Assist with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of engineering and product issues.
• Develop engineering documentation, diagrams, test procedures, and technical reports.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and cross-functional engineering activities.
• Assist with verification and validation activities to ensure products meet defined requirements.
• Perform other engineering projects and analyses as assigned.

Required:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in learning how complex engineered products operate as integrated systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred:

• Experience with CAD, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, LabVIEW, or similar engineering tools.
• Experience collecting, analyzing, and presenting engineering test data.
• Familiarity with requirements management, system modeling, or product verification and validation.
• Previous hands-on engineering, laboratory, or manufacturing experience.
