What You will Do

• The Med/Diagnostic Physicist reports to RSO/Chief Diagnostic Physicist. Baystate Health Radiation Safety Diagnostic Medical Physicist position is focused on providing diagnostic imaging physics support for all medical imaging modalities located within the Baystate Health (BH System.
• BH comprised of BMC and 3 Regional Hospitals with a soon to be added 4th regional hospital effective November 1, 2026.
• BH has a Broad Scope Radioactive Materials License.
• The group also supports an active Radiation Seed Localization program currently at three locations.
• In addition; the Radiation Safety/Diagnostic Imaging group also supports the following programs: 90Y SirSphere/TheraSphere, 177Lu Lutathera and Pluvitco, 223Ra Xofigo, 131I Thyroid CA & Hyperthyroid Program, Medical Laser Program, Ultraviolet Program and test over 45 Diagnostic Monitors along with 5 Remote Mammography Workstations. The section also supports the very active D’Amour Cancer Center’s HDR Program, 2 CT Scanners, and 4 On Board Imaging Devices.
• There may be opportunities for teaching Radiology & Cardiology Resident programs as well.
• BH Radiation Safety/Diagnostic Imaging Physics section also have a Baystate Diagnostic Physics Services that provide imaging services to 15 community centers throughout Western MA communities.
• This person will also be very actively involved in Annual Physics testing of the following modalities: CT (17), (3 MRI Magnets), 80 Diagnostic and 18 Interventional, Cardiology, & Neurology Imaging Units.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities: Complete quality assurance survey including acceptance testing on all types/modalities of radiological imaging equipment, new equipment specification and acceptance evaluation; image quality assurance, radiation dosimetry, and computerize dosimetry analysis. Equipment surveys performed in accordance to State of Massachusetts & Connecticut, American College of radiology (ACR) and Joint Commission required testing of diagnostic modalities such as radiography, fluoroscopy, Mammography, Ultrasound, Nuclear, CT & MR units.

• Support clinical medical physics of diagnostic x-ray imaging modalities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Assist when necessary with research support, resident teaching as well as health system staff training and education.
• Assist with administrative efforts with regards to inspections and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in medical physics required with strong diagnostic medical physics background and experienced preferred. Candidates should have 1-3 years of experience working with radiology imaging equipment of all modalities including: Fluoroscopy, Radiography (CR/DR), Mammography (2D & Breast Tomosynthesis) CT (Cone Beam CT), MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear, & PACS.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications: For more experience candidates Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Radiological Physics or an equivalent certification from the American Board of Medical physics in the necessary specialty as appropriate is desirable. At a minimum, board-eligible candidate is expected to attain certification within three years. Once obtained, individual is expected to maintain certification throughout duration of employment. Prefer individual is eligible for MA Radiation Control Medical Physicist Initial Qualifications for Mammography Surveys.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities: Effective interpersonal communication, teamwork skills, open to work on new clinical research projects.

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
