The Role

REV Ocean is seeking a motivated, safety-focused and technically skilled Submersible Pilot to join our subsea operations team and operate DSV Aurelia, our Triton 7500/3 human-occupied submersible.

This is a hands-on offshore role requiring strong operational, technical and safety competence in the operation of deep-diving submersibles. The successful candidate will work in a two-pilot team with the Submersible Supervisor. Both pilots will rotate between the roles of Submersible Pilot and Surface Officer based on mission requirements, and work closely together to support safe and efficient operations throughout dive preparations, launch, recovery, and post-dive activities.

DSV Aurelia will support complex scientific missions, deepwater exploration, filming, sampling, survey operations, deployment and recovery of scientific equipment, subsea intervention and integration of specialized third-party sensors and tooling. It will also do conventional recreational and passenger dives.

Key Responsibilities

Work as part of a two-pilot team, rotating between Submersible Pilot and Surface Officer duties as required.
As a pilot, control and operate DSV Aurelia during scientific, exploration, filming, sampling and subsea-intervention operations.
Operate the manipulator arm, subsea tooling, cameras, lighting, navigation and scientific sampling equipment with precision and care.
Safely host scientists, researchers, media personnel and guests onboard DSV Aurelia, providing clear operational guidance and maintaining a professional, calm and safety-focused environment.
Carry out and sign pre-dive and post-dive checks, confirm vehicle readiness, and report defects, abnormalities and maintenance requirements without delay.
As a Surface Officer, support the safe conduct of the assigned dive from the surface, including launch and recovery, tracking, communications, equipment checks, weather and sea state monitoring, surface traffic awareness, and coordination with the bridge and recovery team.
In general, proactively collaborate in mission planning, permit application processes, risk assessments, toolbox talks, operational briefings and emergency drills.
Conduct passenger and crew safety briefings before every dive.
Prepare for and participate in launch and recovery operations through the moonpool, coordinating closely with the Subsea Supervisor, bridge, and deck crew.
Support integration, testing and operation of scientific sensors, survey equipment, scientific tooling and third-party subsea equipment.
Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on DSV Aurelia and its associated support equipment in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System, manufacturer documentation and company procedures.
Troubleshoot and support the repair of electrical, electronic, fiber-optic, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and life-support systems to minimize operational downtime.
Maintain accurate logbooks, dive logs, pre- and post-dive checklists, maintenance records, defect reports, and updated technical documentation and procedures.
Prepare DSV Aurelia, its associated support equipment and operational documentation for inspections, surveys and audits by DNV, the Cayman Islands flag administration and other relevant authorities.
Maintain high standards of operational discipline, housekeeping and equipment care.
Exercise Stop Work Authority and immediately report unsafe conditions, technical faults, operational concerns or changes that may affect the safety of a dive.
Report to the Submersible Supervisor and execute dives in accordance with approved standard operating procedures, dive plans, operational limits and applicable company, flag-state, class and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications and experience

Manufacturer or Class-issued pilot certification for a similar type of submersible craft, with a nominal diving depth equal or greater than 500 msw.
Documented experience as a pilot and surface officer of deep-diving human-occupied submersibles in scientific operations.
SCUBA or Commercial diving certification, divemaster level or greater.
Commercially endorsed boat handling certification, Powerboat Level 2 or greater.
Current First Aid / CPR certification.
Practical fault-finding and maintenance capability across electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and life-support systems.
Experience with launch and recovery operations, handling systems, surface tracking, underwater communications and coordination with vessel personnel.
Experience with subsea tooling, manipulators and integration of third-party equipment and sensors.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and international offshore team, including worldwide travel and expedition rotations.
Good understanding of offshore HSE requirements, risk assessments, toolbox talks and permit-to-work systems.
Relevant technical education, trade certificate or equivalent documented technical competence.
Valid offshore medical certificate and applicable offshore safety certification (BOSIET/FOET, STCW or equivalent as required).
Good written and clearly spoken English.

Preferred experience

Piloting and maintenance experience on deep-diving Triton submersibles.
Deep water operations at depths equal or greater than 1,000 meters
High-resolution subsea imaging, filming, photography, sampling, survey and precision manipulator operations.
Scientific, oceanographic, documentary, research or expeditionary submersible operations.
Integration of scientific sensors, cameras, lighting, survey systems, sampling equipment and third-party subsea tooling.
Certification to maintain Swagelok fluid systems and components.
Experience with Kongsberg sonar and underwater navigation systems.
Planned Maintenance System administration and preparation for class, flag-state or third-party surveys.
Operations in Arctic, Antarctic, or environmentally sensitive areas.
Launch and Recovery operations through a moonpool.
Simultaneous operations with other submersibles and/or ROVs.
Deep-sea sampling and biological/geological collection.
Preparations for annual, intermediate and class renewal surveys.
